User Reviews
Having played many grindy games over the course of my life, I'd like to say with complete and total certainty that this is genuinely the single grindiest game ever conceived. It is going to DEVOUR your life and you will enjoy none of it, because you're forced to slog through 99% of it to get to the actually interesting 1%. For context, every ship is complete hot garbage until you get into a system called "engineering" that lets you apply incremental upgrades to components. You will be slow and you will be trashed in every single fight above the easiest threat level unless you do it. Doing it requires you to fulfill ridiculous requirements that force you into a certain playstyle you don't enjoy for many hours (even though the "engineer" you unlock as a result sells upgrades not even remotely related to that playstyle) or to go find resources so rare they will be sold individually for tens of millions. THEN when you actually want to engineer anything, you need to specifically fly to the...
First time playing, I spent 45 minutes trying to dock my ship. Accidentally hit boost inside the station and immediately turned myself into space confetti. That’s when I knew I was hooked. Elite Dangerous is the kind of game that punishes you, teaches you, and then rewards you when it all finally clicks. Whether you’re hauling cargo, dogfighting in a conflict zone, or scanning alien ruins, there’s always another “just one more jump” moment. 10/10 would crash into the mail slot again. 👍 Recommended.
I really like ED, so much so that I had invested in peripheries like a HOTAS set-up, a VR headset, and even head-trackers for that extra immersion. All of these costed way more than the base game + expansion. The flight dynamics are as good as this genre could get, the sounds of the engines and some weapons are great, and the universe is ever so vast and mysterious. I can deal with some of the negative aspects of the game, such as the kinda wonky FPS game modes, the lackluster tutorial, and the compulsory need for third party applications and/or websites to make the game near somewhat playable. I endured less-than-ideal parts of the game, such as the endless grind for engineering materials, for credits, and fed/empire ranks to unlock the higher-tier ships. But I think I finally had enough. I logged on wanting to do a bit of dog-fighting, grabbed a bounty and went. Nope, the game had other ideas. First jump into the system, no spawn. Cruised around for a bit to the usual hot spots, no...
I don't usually review games, but this is a game that I really wanted to like, tried a lot to learn. It is simply extremely difficult, terrible tutorial, and bloated with bugs (I got stuck a lot just trying to finish the tutorial, and had to repeat several times but never been able to finish). If devs don't respect players to the extent of not working on a proper tutorial, then this game doesn't deserve to earn any purchases. Don't ever buy this.
Sorry the tutorial and in game tools are useless. Flight is over complicated. Overall the ingame controls are just horrible.
I like the game but would be better if it had full controller support
Played 8 hours, died three times which means basically just wipe and start over. Doing "legit" missions is a mare, it takes AGE's to try and glide slop in on a planet to do your mission and then if you miss a guard telling you to stop for the 100th time for a security scan you get shot at and eventually get "wanted" and get wasted again. Doing planet missions are so crap, takes far too long to navigate and then the god awful landing on a planet thing. Game is not for casual players.
I would like to like this game, but... I can't. This game promises freedom, the problem is that this freedom is shallow. Of course, there are some activities, but they are quite simple, repetitive and grindy. The only thing that is done well is flying in space. So if this is what you are looking for in games, then I highly recommend it, if not, then maybe you should look for something else.
remember star wars? Imagine if you were one of the background characters. That is what this game basically is. Beautifle and Remarkable, but also charming with its ships and designs. This game still holds up years later
