SUCH A GREAT GAME! I didn’t expect so much content honestly, it’s filled with stuff, it’s incredible. This is not just a retro vibe game, this is straight up a game that time traveled from the 90s. Difficulty is absurd, gameplay is super rigid—but I was enjoying every bit of it X). The unlockable cheats make it very pleasant to play through—without disabling your achievements! Art style is incredible, music is retro to the core, story is cool, and uh yeah the rest also is incredible . My only minor disappointment is that you don’t unlock more scenes when you get the true ending or
when you max the "confidence" with captured creatures
.

I've not played very many games of this genre — Metroidvania, I believe — but I definitely feel like this is just difficult enough. It's certainly not incredibly easy, but the bosses are a challenge. I've come to appreciate losing a few times as each attempt gathers new information regarding how an enemy moves, what rhythms to look for, what abilities work best — you know, standard Metroidvania stuff, I'm sure! Absolutely, all of my deaths so far were visibly my own fault and I've usually been able to assess what I did wrong or what I didn't know I could have done instead. The controls are pretty responsive —
while playing in your Feral form is fun, and I believe the only way you can sprint from what I've seen so far, the slippery nature of its stops makes it a bit frustrating to platform
— for the most part; I'm playing use a gamepad, an Xbox One formatted controller. This game is really excellent. It captures the so much of what makes older games fun. It has exactly the right amount of challenge; At times it will keep you frustrated, but not so much that you disengage- overcoming difficulties in-game feels extremely good because of this. There are cheat codes you can use too, should you need them. (For example: I found that disabling knock-back from time-to-time really helped in some areas). Because I see a lot of negative reviews talking about it: The controls are incredibly responsive. Movement feels better as you progress in the game, and find equipment that lets you do things like wall jump and dive kick. By the end, it's a treat to move around- and those early spaces that felt so difficult to navigate become trivial. I recommend using a controller with a very responsive D-pad for the best experience.
I wasn't sure what to expect going into this game, but man I'm having a blast with it so far. It's bringing me back to the games from my childhood with it's retro music and gameplay. It's challenging enough to make me want to chuck my Steam Deck across the room, but when you do beat the big bads it feels rewarding. The levels are setup like a labyrinth that genuinely rewards you for exploration.
