A somber dream conjured by grenade-jumping out of bounds in a desolate corner of Halo: Combat Evolved. Far more tricorne hats than I was expecting. Something of a platonic ideal in the space of "art indie." Doesn't overstay its welcome, invites leisure and exploration, has a clear and concise aesthetic, and manages to to be FUN. The atmosphere of the game's diegesis is one thing, but Metal Garden's UI and flourishes, from the Halo-like interlude titles fading in to the HUD elements, are all singular and working in tandem.

This is an insane experience for only $6. A world that takes inspiration from BLAME!, Inside, Kenshin, and others. Gameplay fundamentals of DOOM/QUAKE, Duke Nukem, Half-Life², and other classical FPS games. Very simple but tight controls and mechanics, combat, and gameplay. Exploration is rewarded around almost every single corner. Modifiers that let you change up the experience from the get-go. A short and intriguing, mysterious and creative story that leaves you itching for more. This is easily my top FPS game of 2025. I wish it could be a longer game but I also think it's perfect at around 2-3 hours. This is a very fun and relaxing experience, with simple-but-fun puzzles and creatively-designed and planned combat scenarios. Beautiful vistas and a game world that leaves you breathless & wishing you could just, see, what else lies over the horizon... Absolutely recommend this game to anybody who wants to give it a try. You don't even have to be good at FPS games to enjoy this. Than...
An absolute masterpiece of minimalism. Only took an hour and a half to beat the game without doing too much additional exploration, but I had a fantastic time. Would recommend it for both the money and the time.
Impossible scale in video games is something that always seems to click with my brain, and Metal Garden provides. I happened to notice a Halo comparison in one of the other reviews and it really is apt, not due to game play but due to the use of impossibly large vistas and gargantuan structures. Those who have the same scale sickness as me have the Forward Unto Dawn landing in Halo 3 seared into their brains. Metal Garden supplies that same dopamine hit. That same sucking in breath anxiety that something too big to exist brings with it. There's also a totally fine shooter underneath all of this. It's not really the point, but it's fun enough. It's minimal and accomplishes its purpose, which I believe to be a means to propel you through the environment. Just to quickly bullet point some stuff... * The general energy the game puts off is perfect. You can feel the temperature, the moisture in the air, the oppression of a metal sky looming overhead... it's masterful. * The little bit of...
One of the most beautiful games i have ever played, the atmosphere is truly something unique. I would unironically give a kidney for a huge open world game with just this atmosphere and world, its great!
oh my f*cking god this is so cool. THIS IS SO COOOOOOOLLLL this reminds me of a shooter from the ps2 era, and also of a kittyhorrorshow game. its a combination i'd never think would happen. im glad it does, though thank you for making this, tinerasoft
Got so wet that I got shot
Feels like a mix of Halo CE and Half Life 2. The previews might not look that crazy, but this game is actually really good. You'll get about 3 hours worth of content in the first playthrough, but there are modifiers that are worth another round. It also has crazy good atmosphere and a really cool story. If you liked the surreal environments and gunplay of Halo CE, and the serene quiet that is almost suffocating from Half Life 2, then you will likely love this game.
nice slate artstyle, nice menus, nice level design, nice combat, nice atmosphere
Very atmospheric in every sense of the word. Gunplay is tight and the damage system is interesting. One downside is that there is no auto save, just chapter checkpoints, but the brevity of the game makes it manageable. Another issue I had was screen flickering, though that might be down to my personal system. Overall, very worth your time and money.
