Blood Storm: Alien Purge

I really can’t recommend this game. It’s an on-rails shooter and at best just mediocre. The mechanics are very bare-bones: two guns, health, and reload. There’s no cover system, only occasional events where you have to hit circles in a specific order to pass a QTE. But the game doesn’t tell you which circle to hit. What I mean is: there’s a left and a right circle, and you basically have to guess which direction to press. I bought it for 6 euros and still think that’s too much. It runs on Unreal Engine, so the performance is really bad without FSR enabled. The fun factor is just not there, since it feels more like a point-and-click adventure than a well-thought-out experience. Maybe it’s for you – but it wasn’t for me! I kinda like it. It's not the best rail shooter I've ever seen but I had fun with it for a bit tonight. It wears its influences on its sleeves, with a lot of nods to House of the Dead in particular. It's simple to play and does what I expected out of it. Really, it feels better to play than the House of the Dead Remake from a few years back and I haven't heard anything good about the recent HotD2 Remake, so I'm sure this is better than that too. I really appreciated the monotone voice acting in this one. It nailed the insane voice acting of those old light gun games. If the dev didn't intend for that to be a reference, well, just roll with it and don't tell anyone that! It fits! It's great on the Steam Deck. The track pad works really well to control the reticle and the Deck lends itself to quick pick-up-and-play sessions. Bit of mixed feelings with this one Didn't want to give thumbs down, because there is some potential in this. But at it's current state I wouldn't actually recommend it tho. (There should be rating option for thumbs middle!) + Looks kinda cool and fun + There is always room for new rail shooter games - Ugly colorful score points and texts (Reload!!!) in ugly font and ugly colorful outlines in enemy projectiles.
