Alternativa is one of those games that sits firmly in the middle for me. It’s a classic point-and-click adventure dressed in a cyberpunk setting and while the premise is promising - corporate oppression, underground resistance, a grim dystopian city - the execution never fully lives up to it. The atmosphere is decent: bleak environments, moody industrial backdrops and a soundtrack that sells the sense of isolation. But once you settle into the gameplay loop, cracks start to show. Puzzles swing between straightforward and frustratingly obtuse, with more backtracking than feels fun. The dialogue can be stiff and the voice acting, while serviceable, doesn’t always bring the characters to life. Technically, it runs fine and doesn’t ask much of your hardware but visually it’s dated, even for its release era. Animations are stiff and cutscenes lack the punch you’d want from a game leaning so heavily on narrative. That said, I wouldn’t call it a bad game. The story has am...
