Out of all the Ikuku games I've been playing, I didn't think eitherway one would be receiving a not recommendation from me, well, this one is more of a sideways thumb up. What's wrong with this one? Well, all will be explained in the spoiler section, I'm afraid. This takes place a couple of weeks after The Soul Box; this time, we play as Dottore. You may have recognised him if you have played The Soul Box and Lifesign DLC. He is also the character known as Doctor from For Ever Melancholia. One day, after a reporter shot themselves on live TV, he received a Soul Box to crack open by decrypting a journal full of poetry to release a mysterious girl whose soul is presumed to be trapped in a ring that was delivered to him later. About This Game
"Phantoms. All we know is phantoms."
Dystopian city is living its best life. A reporter from the news blows his brains out during a live broadcast. An ex-archeologist, ex-professor, always-a-poet and now burglar takes his second ever case to crack open a Soul Box. A strapping young clone inherits the burdens of fame and wealth, and is now left alone, with only his ghosts to help him carry it. The doors open and close, "The Doors" are coming from the audio systems of the hypercars, from the speakers in the night club, from inside your head.
Cherchez la femme is always the answer, but what should one do if the femme in question lost herself in the sea of phantoms too? Who are you in this play: Siegfried or Hagen?
Phantoms is a linear visual novel, an indirect continuation to The Soul Box. It can be played/read as a standalone story, but one familiar with the past games still might enjoy it a bit more, as a weird and warm homecoming.
Featuring:
linear story with a lightest touch of puzzles and gameplay that will influence something in the epilogue;
dystopian cyberpunk setting;
a car. THE car. We love cars;
a bit of nudity and a drop of sexual content at some point;
love that burns you, makes you fly and then plummets you to the ground right to the death of your poor heart.
