This is kino. But I hate this.
First of all, sellouts!
I was so disppointed to see the Epic Games and Switch releases be a whole year earlier than the Steam release. This one, of all the game, that was so instrumental in the rise of indie games way back in in 2008, to pull this trick off! World of Goo 1's storytelling is dear to my heart, and probably shaped my artistic perception and preference much more than I understand along with other Tomorrow Corp games. They, on the other hand, respect you as an audience capable of reading subtext and making conclusions about what happens in their stories, however primitive they might be. World of Goo 2 disappoints in chapter transitions with lack of buildup and straightforward voiced narration. Its not like other games have an incredible plot, but digging it up by yourself was the best part of the experience. Loved the puzzles. New mechanics leave you in awe repeating "what a pleasant level that was" for almost half of them...

The first World of Goo is still a brilliant game, and of the gems that introduced me to how good indie gaming can be by making a simplish concept endearing, funny, enjoyable and most importantly, fun. Unfortunately, the successor is a type of the game where a neutral rating would do best, because all the things that attracted me to the first one seem to be missing, especially the fun part. I hope some of the future updates address the lack of flexibility when playing and make this once again a fun game, instead of whatever it is now.

Didn't enjoy the Chapter 4 story sections, so I used the skip button for the first time... only to realize I can't skip the final level and have to slog through it if I want to get back to the puzzles. Also I'm not sure why but this game chugs hard in those story sections even on modern hardware (Ryzen 7700 + RX 9070) which makes it even less enjoyable.

World of Goo 2 is not a bad game, and deserves to exist, but somehow it does not live up to its predecessor. For me, the original World of Goo was not only about the game mechanics, but also the atmosphere it created: On the weird edge between fun and melancholic, simultaneously disturbing and yet soothing. And as much as World of Goo 2 recreates the game mechanics of the original, and even adds some nice new ideas, it fails to create that special atmosphere of the original.

we waited 16 YEARS for this game and you know what? IT WAS WORTH IT i went in completely blind and streamed my initial reactions. this game ended up being so much wilder than i could've ever expected and i cherish it dearly. if you liked the original, you'll LOVE this.

The slimy erections in World of Goo have given me as much pleasure as the slimy erections of the most skilled of my lovers past. This game is as well done as its predecessor, but I feel its best quality is actually its soundtrack. This series has my favorite music of any game I've ever played, coming out above even beautiful soundtracks like those of Super Mario Galaxy and Undertale. It genuinely gave me goosebumps to hear the remastered versions of the first game's music. If you've played the first game, please, I beg of you, do not deny yourself the slimy pleasures of the second. If not, I'd suggest playing the first World of Goo beforehand.
