it does the job and I am not paying a subscription
I held off on getting this software for a few years before finally purchasing it outright, and suffice to say there's a reason why Substance is the industry standard for texturing. I wish there were better cheap options out there because I hate Adobe as much as the next guy, but this is the big one for a reason. Within a few hours of downloading the software, I've been able to create higher quality asset textures than I ever could in a few years of struggling with Blender's built in shader & baking system, and I can't say I've had many complaints. Surprisingly, I've even been able to recover all (or almost all) of my texturing progress in cases where I've realized there's an issue with the mesh or the UVs halfway through the process because of the procedural workflow. My only regret is that I didn't buy Painter or Designer sooner, since they seem to get more expensive every year. finiky with drawing tablets, hates the huion tablets but fine with wacom....worht it to a degree
I just need Substance 3D Painter for my chores, and I must say it is a really powerful tool. Nevertheless, it is excessively expensive for those who don't use the software in a comercial way.

It's my first time using the Steam version. It is way better than the regular Adobe subscription. The major updates are not a big deal, and if you don't want to live chained as a slave to the Adobe Cloud, it is perfect. Also, if you are going to use it for more than one year continuously, it is a cheap investment compared with the subscription.
