Dead Take is a video game that took me by surprise, as this is not the normal content featured from the developer Surgent Studios. Now that I have played Dead Take I can sincerely say, I need more content like this from this studio. A true thrill of a video game, lets talk about the pros and cons.. PROS: Graphics - Dead Take is sincerely a beautiful game. Creepy, dark, broody and overall unsettling. The lighting is phenomenal in this game. It is STUNNING. The shadows hit perfectly in everyway to create a setting that is truly uneasy. The mansion is beautiful, the landscape is nice to look at. Every single piece of the mansion can be explored in great detail. It is truly a massive step in the right direction from the studios previous game. Level Design - This game has incredible level design, with many short cuts, unlockable rooms and it all flows VERY nice to create this one gigantic mansion that is super fun to explore. Story / Writing- Dead Take features a very intriguing and ve...

Dead Take is a psychological horror walking simulator that takes place in a luxurious modern mansion, something you would see high in Hollywood Hills in LA California. In this game you solve puzzles in and around the mansion, while unlocking FMV videos to watch in the theater room of the mansion. The game has a light "Myst (1993)" style feel to it, with puzzles and clues unlocked while watching Full Motion Videos in the mansion's theater room. The horror aspects are pretty light throughout the game until the very end, most of the game is more "psychological" than "horror". The game takes approximately 3-5 hours to complete. + The setting is completely original. Instead of the usual horror setting as an old abandoned haunted house, this game is set in a beautiful modern mansion complete with gorgeous minimalist architecture. The graphics are really well made, the layout of the house is fun to explore, and the game has a nice sheen / polish to it. + The story is completely original an...
I respect the ambition behind the game and the work that went into this, especially the performances. But the overall experience didn't quite come together for me. The overuse of cheap jump scares, fragmented story that is hard to follow and even the pacing made it hard to stay engaged through out my play through. There's potential here, but the final result fell short. Thanks
This game needed more work , I got it mostly for the actors and thought it would be good but it just felt a bit dull
At first I didn't know if I was gonna like it, but a hour into the game I started to understand the underlying story, and after that the game just kept cruising. The puzzles are well paced and are not to hard to figure out.
Great indie gem with some seriously impressive voice and acting talent - Ben Starr (Clive from FFXVI, Verso in CO33) and Neil Newbon (Astarion from BG3, Heisenberg from RE: Village) absolutely knock it out of the park here. They really get to flex their acting chops, and it’s an absolute delight to watch. Special shoutout to the surprise cameo appearances sprinkled throughout - it was a genuine thrill to see them in all their FMV glory. Gameplay-wise, Dead Take is primarily a puzzle-solver wrapped in psychological horror elements and told mostly through a found-footage style narrative. The puzzles themselves aren’t particularly difficult - which feels intentional, as the focus is more on atmosphere and storytelling. On the horror front: aside from a couple of cheap(ish) jump scares, I wouldn’t personally call it terrifying (your mileage may vary). There is an existential dread that creeps in as you explore and solve puzzles, but those moments are spaced out. Played primarily on...
Probably could have been a short film rather than a game. The actors all did their thing with what I imagine was a small budget. The gameplay, atmosphere, horror aspects were pretty minimal or even non-existant. The game felt like four hours wasted by the end. I have to mention the constant bugs when the story actually starts 3 hours in, kept losing audio dialogue from Duke Cain the producer and in the final portion of the game when he monologues the audio stuttered the whole time or just cutting out entirely. Very strange since this didn't happen anywhere else in the game. All this game has going for it is some pretty top tier actors and that is LITERALLY all it has going for it. I'd give it like a 5/10 audio bugs aside. Boring, predictable story.
I enjoyed it but felt like a walking simulator with easy jump scares the game excels at atmosphere I think I was more creeped out by the atmosphere than the easy jump scares the story is the only thing that kept me playing the main issue I had was the last achievement being bugged I enjoyed the puzzles wasn't too hard or too easy I was happy with them I would have liked if they let us skip the movies parts or fast forward them I would probably give it a 6.5/10 since it keeps you interested enough but the horror could be improved on. I say focus more on atmosphere horror than jump scares. I wouldn't recommend this because I think you could probably get something more better and longer for the same price.
A good, albeit not amazing experience, but engaging enough that I beat it in a single sitting. Dead take is a mix of FMV horror and a series of escape room style puzzles. I was initially interested in the game because it stars Neil Newbon and Ben Starr, and I was pleasantly surprised to recognize a couple of the other cameos. The gameplay is basically a first person walking simulator/escape room style where you solve a series of puzzles. The puzzles typically give you new FMV footage to watch, and watching the videos gives you keys to progress to the next set of puzzles. Rinse and repeat. You're also able to splice some of the videos together to unlock bonus videos that flesh out more of the story. The puzzles are fairly fun. Nothing too challenging, but also just challenging enough to feel satisfaction for solving them. There was only a single puzzle I had to look up online towards the end, and I could have probably figured it out myself with more patience. The story is fa...
It's a so so game. The graphics is beautiful (very resource intensive). But the gameplay is kind of boring. It didnt feel very scary, The story plot is all over the place. I get what the story is trying to say but I felt the presentation is kind of sloppy, unfocused. Lots of leads went nowhere. And there were parts of the game you basically had to pixel hunt the whole mansion to collect several items, took me an hour just for this task, bored me to death. I really enjoyed the FMV clips though, I am a big sucker for FMVs. And the cameos were cool! Overall, 5.5/10 for me. Try at your own risk.
