About This Game

Allow me to confess that I find you quite tangible for a phantasmagorical being.

I must say, this is really quite strange. You are the first living being I have ever met in this place. Nevertheless, I will introduce myself. I am the Judge.

The Batter has a sacred mission to fulfill.

He seeks to purify the world. You, then, the controller, the soul that he harbors, must aid him in this laudable task. Alongside my sportive companion you will find it necessary to solve puzzles, rain blows upon certain hostile individuals of our wild zones, and oversee the headways and logistics of a network of swan boats and interurban locomotives.

I, too, travel widely among the zones of this world.

Open your wings and fly toward the zones ahead without hesitation! All of them are filled with strange and enchanting beings as well as every modern convenience. All of them appear, it must be said, to require the beneficient application of our friend the Batter’s muscular wrist. Do not worry, my dear phantasm—I, the Judge, will be with you (in spirit and body) at all the most crucial moments of your quest.

I'm going to cut that insufferable smile right out of your face

How dare you talk to me? Why have you decided to be such a pain in my ass? The Queen chose me to protect Zone 1, and I've dedicated my whole life to it.

Listen. Get out of here, and take those ghosts with you, or I am going to kill you. I hope that's clear enough.

I played the original OFF for the first time more than a decade ago already, and it was a surreal experience back then. I played it for free and all because a guy named Mortis Ghost decided to not charge a dime for the masterpiece he created (also because of all the copyrighted content included in it lol). This rerelease allows me not only to have one of my favorite RPG games on steam for the first time ever, but also to finally be able to Support Mortis ghost in a way. If you've been keeping up with the developer interviews you'll always hear the same sentiment from them: "We're all doing this for Mortis Ghost" This rerelease is a love letter to Mortis Ghost and a way to show him that we, the people that played the original game from 2008 to 2025, loved what he did and want to support him in any way we can. I am proud to be able to purchase this game, knowing the money will go to the guy that gave us this amazing piece of art. This is my way of saying "Thank you, Mortis Ghost,...

This remaster is the definition of suffering from success. It takes a phenomenal game, adds tons of quality of life improvements, introduces new boss fights, and offers a brand new OST… and the community complains about the soundtrack change. The new soundtrack is brilliant, but it does live in the shadow of the masterpiece that is the original soundtrack. This is a huge disservice to the new soundtrack, because if it weren’t for this comparison I truly believe the community would be singing praises over how inspired it is. That said, I think it’s a good sign this is the only widespread complaint about this remaster. OFF was a perfect game, despite—or perhaps because of—its imperfections. To be able to build upon it 17 years later without any sort of dip in quality, and to retain the original aesthetic with new content and changes alike; this is truly cause for celebration.

Beating OFF was one of the greatest experiences of all time, however it did take quite a while to finish. If i could beat OFF for the first time again, i would take that opportunity in a heartbeat.

So when the Batter goes on a “purification” mission to rid the world of specters it’s for the greater good. But when I do it I get sent to the mental asylum????

if this is your first exposure to the game, then this is for you! the quality of life additions and extra art are welcome changes to an almost 20 year old game. if you're a returning fan, i can't say i really recommend this outside of supporting mortis ghost. if you know anything about this game, you know that its music was core to its identity. the original composer was ultimately not interested in being a part of this remake, which is absolutely their right to decide. this means that the entire soundtrack had to be redone, featuring several popular RPG composers! unfortunately the replacement music is overwhelmingly mediocre. i could not point out a single track that is particularly memorable if you paid me to. every track feels like it's trying its hardest to BE the original track without actually replicating the tone whatsoever. when i finished the game all i really felt was disappointment in the largest change made to the game. notably, the dedan fight theme that was in the demo...

I am directing my review SPECIFICALLY at people who did not play the original, but have maybe played one of the MANY games that were inspired by it (Undertale/Deltarune, Omori, Oneshot, etc). TLDR: It's not perfect but you should play it. When you take a film class, there are some "classics" that you should watch because they give you context for things that would come after. Those classics may not always be as polished, and may not be to everyone's tastes, but they are important to experience because the give you the starting point to see how ideas have grown and changed in the medium over the years. OFF is one of those for videogames. A modern player who did not play this in 2008 (or in the years afterward) might not appreciate how unique and innovative this game was because there are games now that have taken the ideas from OFF and done even more exciting things with them. But I think it's still important to experience OFF if you're a modern gamer so you can see the star...

The original OFF felt like a dream. Playing this version feels like going back to sleep trying to re-experience that same dream, but realising things are a little different this time around. The battle system is definitely an improvement from the base game, some of the fights actually make you think this time rather than just "spam strongest moves to win". I have mixed feelings about the new OST though. Don't get me wrong, they're all absolute bangers, but the atmosphere feels kinda lost in some places without the sharp graty feeling of the original OST. This is most evident in Zone 2, as well as Alma in Zone 1, in my opinion. Overall, I think the rest of the additions are decent and bring an interesting new charm to an otherwise already influential game. Still rating it a 7.8/10, nostalgia bias hits hard.

Leaving a positive review because a lot of people are leaving a negative one just because the ost got changed, which legally, they have NO control over. EDIT: The game is also good, and the new soundtrack is good :) It is worth the money. I recommend the game to other people.

Bought the game for me and friend EXACTLY when it dropped, and oh my god do I have a review to write... First of all, I don't write reviews often for games, and when I do, it's never something serious. I streamed the game to my friend when he got home from the doctor's, and we spent 10+ hours 100%ing the entire game in our very first playthrough, and I wish I could do it all again. We had a blast with this, and the both of us played the original 2008 version in anticipation for this release, and we think it delivered HARD. All of the OSTs were amazing, props to the music team for making such amazing tracks. Dedan's new theme is actually amazing, and I wish I could talk about more of them in depth, but I don't wanna spoil this for people wanting to try it out. The revamped combat is really good compared to the OG, absolutely loved all the new effects added, and the general polish and smoothness that came with it. The critical system saved me so many times, and allowed for...

If you're looking for an experience that is exactly like the original or better, you're in the wrong place. Do not expect a wonderful nostalgia trip, because the original will always win in that case - it's still free, just go play that instead if that's what you want. Overall, I think the game is quite good. It feels more polished overall, the pillar art is charming, new UI and sound effects are really pleasing, and it stays very true to the original. There are also 6 new secret bosses that I had a lot of fun fighting. If you're looking for something very similar to the old OFF experience but with some fresh new content and a new coat of paint, I recommend this remake. As for the OST that I see so many people complaining about, of course it's not going to hold a candle to the original when you're comparing both. This remake's OST is just as good as the original in its own ways. In some aspects I find the original has better music, in some, this one has better music. It really de...
