I spent 4 hours into Desktop Survivors 98, which is kinda surprising for a simple game. It's straightforward roguelite shooter with a nostalgic Windows 98 theme, using your wallpaper and application UI as the dungeon background. The main draw is nostalgia, with enemies and allies inspired by Windows 98 apps, menus, wallpapers and icons. The game didn’t start off smoothly for me. When beginning a new run, I struggled to figure out where my character was, as the only UI was a frame on the sides. It turns out you need to pick a door to open on the side, which then reveals a full UI for either a battleground or an event area. The gameplay is simple: fight or dodge enemies, collect experience and gold to buy new attack patterns or upgrade existing ones. Depending on your character, you’ll encounter classic Windows 98 elements like the Pipe and 3D Flowerbox screensaver, Solitaire 98, Windows Paint etc as your weapons. Enemies include variations resembling Clippy from Microsoft (man, I...

I've had decade-long drug addictions that were easier to drop. I've been in a three year long abusive relationship where a narcissistic psychopath woman employed DARVO tactics to keep me tied to her, leaving her was easier. Doing cocaine without becoming addicted to it was EASIER than dropping this game. Help.
Satisfying Bullet Hell
While obviously similar to Vampire Survivors, Desktop Survivors 98 combines bullet hell gameplay with the classic nostalgia of the Windows 95 and xp operating systems. The game settings really let you get creative with personalization, going as far as to allow you to overlay the game with your actual desktop for added immersion which is rather charming. The game's mascot, Swordy, acts as a sleep mode button to allow for quick and discrete gameplay while at work or school making this title perfect for laptops or other professional devices should you seek a distraction from the monotony. The weapons, skills and abilities are all extremely creative in their execution. Bosses existing as rogue programs that can be re-installed as executable files is a very clever approach to game progression. Allowing the user to access the library and the compendium at any time during a run from the start menu, while simple, felt intuitive. Achievement hunting was a bla...
Cute hoard survivor with an OG era windows vibe. Plenty of growth and fun to be had. Your real cursor IS your character and is the center of your health. So move around the screen and avoid the enemies as ya make yourself as strong as you can!
yes
I like this game, it’s very fun and addicting and a great rogue like or at least I think it is. Overall great game. You also might like it if you’re a undertale/Deltarune fan or like bullet dodgers.
really good time killing in between other game's matchmakings
Very fun little game and great homage to the Windows of yore. Pairs extremely well with classic style vaporwave, especially Vektroid / Macintosh Plush + Blank Banshee. Easy $5 pickup.
Great time killer.. Has cool thing where you can use your actual desktop as play field. you can watch videos and do it, Very distracting.. but still cool. lol
