About This Game

You, malevolent King, have learnt the ways of Sorcery

Gather wilful servants by enslaving varied tribes –

Collect trinkets to enhance your fighters in unique ways –

HyperCoven runs on a custom engine that easily supports hundreds of active units

The game heavily aims to capture that old-school RTS feeling:

  • Brute pathing: Every unit pathfinds individually. No unit blobs and no pushing other units out of the way

  • Brute targeting: Every unit targets individually. No overkill prevention

  • Brute casting: Every command is executed by all units that receive it

You can expect a few modern features such as:

  • Infinite selection size

  • Select-All-Army hotkey

  • Select-All-Production hotkey, incl. setting rally point

The game is wholly designed with these capabilities in mind and will often give good reason to not move the whole army at once.

RTS-Roguelite Blend

HyperCoven plays like an RTS, but production of units is automatic.

Capture different Coven which summon troopers for you to send into battle.

Each trooper has up to 7 different attributes that can be enhanced with trinkets found in the world and buildings erected in base.

Game Modes

  • The Campaign spans 10 hand-crafted missions and a tutorial.

  • Conquest Mode is about venturing out to conquer the whole (randomized) world, as you would venture into a dungeon.

  • Invasion Mode is a take on the "wave defense" idea, the world is more sparse, but extra-dimensional invaders are warping in and drop valuable items.

  • Multiplayer Co-Op available for Invasion and Conquest.

  • Multiplayer PvP action on over 10 different maps. A plethora of options to customize your match between try-hard and super random.

Multiplayer netcode is optimised for latency and does not propagate lag between players. If one participant has a bad connection, the match still runs smoothly for everyone else.

The controls just work (which is a low bar but surprisingly a lot of RTS/RTT games fail to clear it). It has grid hot keys, middle mouse drag (the default is "drag the map" and there is no invert setting, which is comfortable for me from SC2 muscle memory but might annoy you if you want to "pan the camera"). The units are weird, the pathfinding and vision system are a little janky. Its better than I expected. Again, the controls just work for me which is a huge relief. Lots of these indie strategy games everytime I try to move the camera it goes in the wrong direction which is hugely aggravating.

3 dollars for what feels like a starcraft brood war map isn't all that bad. It's neat, interesting, and for the price I think you get a bit more than what you pay.

Very nice retro style RTS (think Starcraft Broodwar) with some cool ideas. Coded by one person in Rust, which is an achievement in itself! The little campaign gets very challenging in the end, hope to see more of it!

Its tight. I like the huge variety of funky units. The music is cool too. The artstyle is all over the place which i actually think is cool, no other game looks like this one. As a guy who usually likes watching my little dudes bring me gold in RTS games I was skeptical of the coven system but its fun and makes you form strats on the fly based on what units you have access too. A full campaign is also a crazy steal for a $3 game! I wish the sound effects were a bit more satisfying, but the music makes up for it
