Before you buy, just keep in mind that this game has always been pretty janky to run even on high-end rigs, but personally, I don't think this port is as unplayable as some people are making it out to be. As far as I can tell, it runs pretty well & functions like classic Sims 2. I haven't had many crashes myself, but I can't speak for everyone. The only times I've been able to cause crashes are from tabbing out when the game launches or sometimes after changing graphic settings & then loading into a household. I think these issues are mostly caused by Sims 2's spaghetti code running on hardware / OS made over a decade later, but I could be completely wrong.

I would recommend this game IF the performance updates had continued. With no performance updates you are reliant on the modding community to fix bugs and fix the stuttering. Game crashes, game crashes, game crashes. This is your experience if you spend too long on a family. The game becomes unplayable. You should find some way to procure the original Ultimate Collection and then heavily mod that version since NONE of the old mods are compatible with this new version so many bug fixes and performance fix mods are still reserved for a older version of the game.

I have been playing this game on Linux Mint pretty much non-stop since I bought it, and I have experienced no issues with the game. Not a single crash, not even when leaving the game open for a few hours on accident. I have installed mods without any issue. I have experienced bugs, but these are bugs that have existed in the game for nearly 2 decades. I've had both a nostalgia trip, AND I think I've played more in Pleasantview than I ever did as a teenager. I'm having a great time. It's just as fun as I remember. I can't say how it runs on Windows at this point in 2025, but if you have a Linux computer or a Steam Deck, my experience is that it's very stable. I think I had to fix windowed mode in settings on the first launch, but that was it. I waited a few months to buy until some of the launch issues could be resolved, and as far as I can tell, they have been, at least for me. This is the only Sims version I haven't played. I started with the original Sims (1) back when it was released, and then was without a computer around the time Sims 2 was released. By the time I finally got a new computer, Sims 3 was out, so I got that one, and had been playing Sims 4 for quite a few years until I got burned out on it. I was so excited when Sims 1 and 2 legacy were released this year, I waited until the price went down and got the bundle. I played Sims 1 and was hit with so much nostalgia. It's still a fun game to play, it's limited, but the simplicity of it and it being the first is part of the fun. Now, on to Sims 2. I couldn't believe how it had changed from the first version in leaps and bounds. The graphics are beautiful, the camera/screen movement is smooth and easy. So many great interaction options, and needs don't take up so much time that you can't get around to doing anything else. I now get why so many say online how much they prefer this other the o...
