It's like actual golfing! Without the moderate amount of actual physical walking. it's boring, the game is amazing for this. It's a true golf experience. Tips: you can click to auto-walk. Warning, that doesn't make finding the ball easier. I got a 167 on my first course. Really proud of myself.

About This Game
You are not someone who plays sports, but you are someone who is patient. Patient enough to start playing a sport where you hit a tiny ball toward a hole many hundreds of yards away, a hole roughly the same size as the ball, and eventually get it in. Someone patient enough to clear a course by completing this task 18 times consecutively. Someone able to get access to a clubhouse that lets you visit any of eight different courses.
You know that things like "spin" and "wind" exist. You also know nothing about reading or applying them. You have a half set of clubs and the basics of how to swing a club. You know a Par 3 is shorter than a Par 4, which is shorter than a Par 5. You know Woods are good for distance, Irons and Wedges are for getting out of bad spots, and the Putter is meant for the green and is a cruel mistress.
You know to stand directly on top of the ball before trying to use space/enter to interact with it. You know you can back out before finalizing your club selection, but once you reach the point of setting your swing's power you are as the kids say "locked the fuck in" and can't back down. You know that with each stroke, you're going to have to hunt the ball down.
In this game, you have virtually no hud or information. You also have no time limit and the only fail state is when you decide to quit. In the clubhouse, you can talk to the worker to pick what course to play, or go to the door to save, quit, or check your course records.
You can save or return to the clubhouse before finishing a course by hitting space/enter when facing the flag/hole. The goal is to get the ball to the same exact place the flag is. The tee always faces the fairway, and the fairway always leads to the green where the flag is.
The lesson is that even if you have patience, sometimes you need to learn what that word truly means. Also, if you want to change the controls your only chance to is at the title screen.

I do not know anything about golf. I don't know the differences between Wood clubs and Wedges. I don't know what makes a 1 Iron different than a 3 Iron. Yesterday I googled what "par" means. I don't know anything about golf, but that has not stopped me from enjoying this game. Regardless of my knowledge of the sport, I can tell DCGE 2024 works as a minimalist game because it's so tightly designed around a single core theme of patience. Everything is patience. The way you have to find the ball after knocking it yards away into a hazy patch of textureless green - that's patience. The way you can only exit a course by walking its length to the flag and manually selecting the option to quit - that's patience. The way the game locks you into a club selection, even a mistaken one, and now you must pause and think about how you will compensate for this hasty error - that, too, is patience. And with patience comes reward. There's a satisfaction in seeing yourself complete a course in less ...
I've never golfed a day in my life but I'm entirely certain that this game is an accurate depiction of what golfing would be like. I struggled to pick a club. I wandered around trying to find my ball after hitting it into a small depression on the fairway. I got lost. I tried putting the ball into the hole only to overshoot it, and then undershoot it, and then overshoot it again. I golfed on the moon. Also plays great on Steam deck so I can enjoy/suffer this experience from the comfort of my bed.
Experience all the highs and lows of walking out onto a golf course for a first time and having no idea what you are doing all from the comfort of your desk. The ball only vaguely sometimes goes where you want it. It will hide behind the smallest hill while you search far and wide. The ball is the enemy, it must be defeated you must put it in the whole. Also you can go to the moon.
I played through Dracula's Castle course. It's dinner time and I'm worried the next game will put my marriage at risk.
Do you want a really hardcore golf game? Do you want to play one done entirely in an engine made for 2D RPGs? Do you have the patience to play through something that won't hold your hand at any point in the process? If you answered "Yes" to each of these... you're someone with very strangely specific tastes. Fortunately, this game will satisfy those tastes.
Everything that made the first game an excellent hidden gem but better, that is this 'good walk spoiled' simulater ALSO YOU CAN GOLF AROUND DRACULA'S CASTLE WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT?!
This is a very cool game that is definitely not for everyone. I'm not sure what I expected from it, but finishing a hole in 4 strokes felt like a huge accomplishment. If I had to summarize, I would say this game is a struggle (affectionate)
It is definitely more enjoyable then attempting to learn actual golf.
The most accurate representation of what it was like when I played golf. A lot of walking around looking for the ball, a lot of frustration over knowing the best way to play the ball but knowing I was incapable of that and instead doing something less good but within my capacity. In my first attempt I scored +2, +10, +20, +5, +9, +2 which honestly might be better than my real world golf scores (but much closer than any other golf video game I've played!) Alternatively, you could think of this as a lo-fi walking simulator that challenges you to bring a little golf ball with you as you wander.
