It’s the kind of experience that quietly crawls under your skin — not with cheap jumps, but with a slow, suffocating tension that never lets go. Every shadow feels heavier than it should, every sound makes you second-guess what’s real, and the story unfolds like a nightmare you can’t quite wake up from. It’s unsettling in the best way, and by the end, you realize you’ve been holding your breath far more often than you thought.
Unless you can pick this up for Under a Buck, don't even waste your time... -Yes, it's a point and click, BUT: The navigation in this game is a mess, to say the least. Sometimes when you click back you actually go forward and vice-versa. Very Confusing! -Some of the puzzles are so far fetched that, even after watching a walk-through, they make absolutely No Sense. -They provide a help button, WHICH YOU WILL BE USING, but sometimes it just tells you to look around more...What? It's a 3 chapter game and by the second chapter, you just want it to end so that you can delete this mess from your machine. >>It wasn't fun OR enjoyable. About the only thing that it is good for is to kill some time going back and forth from a walk-through. It's hard to believe that ANYONE gave a positive review for this amateurish mess.
This is my short, spoiler-free review. Decay: The Mare is a genuine horror game with a strong eerie atmosphere and an intriguing story. The first chapter delivers both true psychological and visual horror, though the tone shifts slightly by the third chapter. The graphics are well done: dark without falling into pitch black or unrecognisable details. There are jumpscares, but they're not annoying and don't disrupt the atmosphere, Most of the unease comes from the environment and the story. There's not pixel hunting. There are a couple of drawbacks. First, the game is short for its price, since each chapter takes about an hour to finish, even when collecting all coins and achievements, and it is ten years old now, it should cost half its current price by default. It’s best picked up during a discount. Second, a gameplay feature is introduced only in the third chapter without explanation, leaving it unclear why it appears so late or how it fits into the narrative. A more subjective...
It wasn't for me. I found it more slow paced and to much back and forth. The story felt bland, and I had no attachments to any characters.
