Letter from the Devs: About Pahdo Labs

Starlight Re:Volver is a split world fantasy co-op rogue-lite (or rogue-like) action RPG dungeon crawler, where our heroes (the Diver) enter the dreamlike world of So Mi. Bring a pal, because it takes a party of two to four divers to face the obscure monsters you will encounter. Our Divers want to reach the top of the Diver league, write their legend, and leave a legacy.

Our creative guide line is “If we follow trends, we’ll be late to the punch. Instead, we’ll inform ourselves with patterns and themes from history, then create something from the heart.“ We hope that our characters are memorable and relevant: iconic characters that are deserving of cosplay and fanart, and used as benchmarks for future fiction.

We are a small New York based indie team of 33 game developers and anime fans, with DNA from Capcom, Bandai Namco, and Gaia Online. Our product does not make any use of AI artwork or voiceover.

EDIT: Check the steam discussion page, look at the post with a TON of replies. Lead dev is a strange compulsive liar who has pretended to be a solo developer on reddit (is also an investor in the company that is "funding" this game, lol). They've ignored a WEALTH of QA issues that should never have made it live. The company behind it Pahdo also has it's roots in Ai / User Generated content stuff, it's looking bleak, and if I wasn't past refund time I would've. Every flaw you're about to see in this game existed, was mentioned, was ignored pretty much in a blanket and then released. Take a look at that thread for a rabbit hole and a half. Edit 2. Lead dev confirmed their background in crypto/ai. Their original game was made with the goal of using generative Ai code in it, and then support UGC. They omitted answering most of the other issues I'm gonna raise below also, such as lying about "having no prior game industry connections" while he was actively working with Riot develop...

Visually and musically this game is fantastic. However, in its current state I do not feel like there is enough to it to warrant spending 20 dollars in a game that claims it will be in early access for at LEAST 1 - 2 years, if not longer. And that is assuming the playerbase stays large enough for them to feel like it is worth continuing to pour time and money into working on. Gameplay itself is okay, felt like a standard isometric roguelite to me. Nothing bad, but nothing extraordinary. The main selling point of this game is definitely the visuals/worldbuilding. At this time, there are only four characters to choose from, which I understand for a demo / day 1 may be fine. However at this time the roadmap does not show any guarantee of new characters and the dev statement on full release differences say "this MAY include introducing new playable characters to master." Not WILL, but MAY. So, take that as you will but for me it did not sound promising. However, the MMORPG aspect of the ...

Needs more time in the oven, not worth 20-25 dollars at least for now. Most abilities I was able to try practically rooted me in place making me a sitting duck, resulting in me taking A LOT of damage. Could be a skill issue but I didn't really notice any possible damage windows where I could use those abilities. The MMO aspect of the hub feels unnecessary and makes me suspicious that if the plug gets pulled the game's not gonna be playable. Stop killing games. For some reason I was only able to change my character after launching the game a 2nd time and nowhere is that ever explained. Some other UI aspects aren't explained too well either. Didn't experience this myself but there's a chance you won't make it past the tutorial due to unkillable enemies. (I saw people talking about it even in the in-game chat and the devs are aware.)

Tldr; As of now, 20$ seems a bit too much for the game. I refunded because I don't think as of the early access, it seems to be not ready/ worth my money. I have high hopes for the game. Pros: Art styles, music and GAME IDEA is good. The ART style and character designs are really cute. The MUSIC is catchy. The IDEA for the game play is good. It's a bullet-hell style rogue-like where you and up to 3 other members can beat the boss together. The play styles of unit seems to be well thought out; each character have 2+ playstyles that the player can match, melee bruiser character can go Physical Damage whack em up or a CC unit with magic damage. Marksman Girl can go AoE or Single Target DPS and so on for other characters. Cons: The ideas of the games are executed very poorly. On paper it is really well thought out! On gameplay not so much. For dialogue wise, I don't think you need to do 4 screen-wipe transition for the same story within 6 lines of dialogue. Gameplay wise it's a bit ...

I really wanted to like this game but it's actually unplayable right now. I've had several campaigns interrupted near the very end and disbanded the party so I wasted my time for nothing. Edit: Awful lot of accounts with 1 review recommending this game. Weird.

EDIT: HOLY FUCK NVM after reading up on the CEO and the game state it's clear this isn't going anywher good :( I've asked for a refund and i have to say right now the game just feels kinda soulless. My biggest gripe is i couldn't figure out how to switch characters in the hub (fully admit maybe i just missed something) but nothing also really changed from the demo and it feels like all the same content from that. Overall i really hope this game gets something more then it's kinda flop of a early access drop 4/10

It's good and definitely more polished than what it was in the closed beta and demo. It's smooth, but the only complaints I have is: - Certain UI aspects + map change: Instead of being able to choose either or, you get matchmade into an instance for the Sky map or the new Castle map varying on the difficulties you set on up. There's no unlock conditions specified for the extra difficulty and map either. No information is given in regards to that at all. - Dodging: It did get severely nerfed from the last beta. Kira suffers from this the most as she is not able to dodge at all to make use of her dodge attack. Other characters get on by just fine. Kira does have an ability that helps mitigate this however. - No fast travel in the hub: Pretty self explanatory. The game told me to go southwest for the new crafting area of trinkets and there's definitely no compass to help lead the way in regards to that, let alone quest markers beyond the quest pop-up one time that only tells you a cardina...

There is no linux support. I also recommend reading the "this game is being developed in an echo chamber" discussion thread on this games forums as the game has quite the unexpected history with blockchain/crypto associations and microtransactions not mentioned here, If they fix the issues with linux in a couple of days I'll try it out again but will refund it if not.

It makes me very sad to say this, especially because I have been so excited for this game's EA launch, but I cannot recommend this game in its current state. The core issue for me, is there is nothing keeping you playing this game. It has no driving points, anything for you to push to gain. It does not have a plot, or any kind of quest line, or like...really even any NPCs you can interact with. With how small the rooms are for servers, it just looks like a dead game right off the bat. It's really sad. The game does a really good job with its art direct and gameplay loop. It's really addicting to play, but those aren't the only things that make up a game. I think the only benefits to going through the gameplay loop right now are gaining materials for fishing poles and cosmetics, but I'm not really someone who can keep with a game through such superficial things. This game has really interesting lore, and it was a big selling point for me. The fact that it hasn't developed anymore than ...
