About This Game

White Knuckle is a first person roguelite speed-climbing game.

Use momentum-based movement mechanics with precision, deploy a variety of tools and resources, and ascend as fast as you can.

Just don't lose your grip, there’s eternity below you.

Manage your inventory or become encumbered and fall to your death. Failure to grab what you need from your bag in time can spell disaster.

Through run-based meta-progression, you’ll discover and unlock varied augmentations.

Bolster your will to ascend.

You're not alone down here. Strange life flourishes far underground, and darker things haunt these halls. Something oozes from the depths– following you, growing angrier… and it won't let up.

Travel through different regions with unique threats and gameplay challenges during your attempted escape of the underground megastructure.

The deep dry storage of the Silos, the putrid sewers of the Pipeworks, the haunted piers of Habitation. Each area will require adaptation to new obstacles and denizens.

In terms of time pressure, atmosphere, environments, and threats, it feels a lot like a genre-bent Rainworld.

If you like surfing in counterstrike or momentum games, OR roguelikes, OR just want a game genre you never knew you needed. You HAVE to play this. 10/10. Love it.

18 hours in and i am thoroughly enjoying the challenge. Its a simple game at heart, climb quick and don't die. Spent the first ten hours forgeting items existed and still had a blast. I dont think people understand how solid the basics of a game must be for you to forget an entire mechanic that makes the game *easier* and you still be enjoying the game deeply. Giving this game a solid 9.5/10 because its challenging, its simple to pick up and put down, the little lore you get is quite interesting, and the landscape in some areas lets your mind really wonder how things got this bad. I havent finished the game, in fact i'm just shy of 1,800, but man is it ever engaging.

White Knuckle really surprised me. Both the intense climbing gameplay and the scifi horror setting of the game leave me wanting more every time I inevitably fail a lengthy and tense run. The climbing system in White Knuckle is highly skillful, deeply satisfying, and often extremely nerve-wracking. It all comes together beautifully, driving me to keep trying for a win. 14 hours into this game and I really couldn't tell it was early access. It's pretty dang fully featured, with a campaign that takes you through several different areas with highly varied challenges, and extra challenge modes like endless, hard mode, things like that. There's plenty here to hone your skills on, and the roguelike formula lends itself perfectly to the kind of mastery the game demands of you. Instead of realoading your quicksave again and again, you start over. Do it again, and this time, try to go even faster. Find better routes. Make better use of your tools. Even when you fall, you're still climbing in yo...

Great experience all around though it did give me a little motion sickness til I toggled off some of the optional filters. A tense game about climbing that has me gamer necking and sitting up in my chair everytime I play it, I gasp as I make risky leaps, I climb faster as terror chases me, I grab bugs as I make my ascent becoming a rich rich boy, and most of all I KEEP CLIMBING ONE HAND AFTER THE OTHER. for 13$ this game is a STEAL. I've had burritos and steak dinners for 25$ that didn't give me 12.5 HOURS of satisfaction and I think I'll keep climbing some more. Cannot wait to see what the Abyss Looks like!

I wanted to try White Knuckle so I pulled the trigger and bought it, but ultimately it's not for me. My brain can't work with the control scheme which is really sad because the game itself looks insanely cool and I love, LOVE megastructures. Maybe I'll try it again whenever the full release is out, still gonna give a thumbs up nonetheless, because it's not the game's issue but mine! The game itself has an amazing atmosphere and the climbing is implemented well, just not for my lil brain sadly.

Early access, but what's there right now is very promising. You can see and hear the love put into this game. The ambience of the facility is on point, and it's a climbable love letter to the likes of Half-Life, Portal, and SCP. Gameplay is sort of like Peaks of Yore with some scavenging for items to use on the fly. It's a roguelite with some procedural generation in the maps (both campaign and endless modes). The different "cells" of the generation feel pretty good and while you do see similar areas in the campaign at least it's mixed up enough to keep things refreshing. I haven't tried Hard Mode or Iron Knuckle yet but the base game has a satisfying difficulty so far and it doesn't hold back from putting on the pressure and punishing your mistakes. I'm very excited to see where this goes.

The replayability, the atmosphere, the gameplay itself? All superb (in my humble opinion). I've played the demo for this game, because of a 'certain youtuber'. Then cuz' of that, I loved every single run I did on this thing. By the time I played the demo, I was contemplating whether or not I should buy the game in early access. So, when I saved up enough, I went on a whim and bought it full price. I'd say it's worth it, afterall I did like the demo. TL;DR: Thank you Markiplier for giving this game more exposure. Also, just buy it, you'd most definitely like it.
