About This Game

In Cantaloupe Chronicle, you step into the shoes of a budding journalist on your first day as an intern at the town’s quirky newspaper, The Cantaloupe Chronicle. Set in a cozy roadside town filled with intrigue, this game invites players to explore a rich, atmospheric environment. The story centers on an old mystery, but the theme explores how not every story ends cleanly and how we learn to live without closure.

Key Features:

  • Classic point-and-click gameplay with a modern touch

  • Innovative article-writing system that transforms clues into publishable stories

  • A cozy, atmospheric setting full of secrets and offbeat characters

  • Hand-crafted puzzles designed to reward exploration and curiosity

  • Around 4-8 hours of playtime

A Glimpse into Cantaloupe Chronicle

Players arrive in the cozy town of Cantaloupe to start their internship at their aunt's newspaper. What begins as a simple learning experience quickly turns into a quest to uncover the secrets of the town's past—including the mysterious case of a body found years ago.

As players collect items, talk to the townsfolk, and solve engaging puzzles, they’ll craft articles using an innovative text editor system. Writing doesn’t feel daunting here—players unlock text blocks from their investigations and insert them into articles with ease. From small-town gossip to the big front-page story, every article brings them closer to the ultimate truth.

About the Developer

Cantaloupe Chronicle is developed by a single developer, me – Tim Rachor. I have been working as a professional Game Designer for over 15 years in the industry and some years ago I decided that I wanted to create my own games in my spare time. This is the third point-and-click adventure I'll release and my 12th game on Steam overall.

Unfortunately this is not a very good game. The main quest is that you're a journalist writing stories about the small town and running errands and righting wrongs as you do so. It's not super gripping stuff, and it gets repetitive after a while. The puzzles are not great. Some of the difficulty is arbitrarily inflated. For example, if you've got money, why can't you ask a cashier for change rather than having to find a quarter somewhere else to play an arcade? Since when do gas stations not sell you containers for pumping gas? Why can you use your word processor to type some notes but not others? Etc. The information about the murder mystery is doled out very slowly, and I didn't get to a point in the game where progressing in that investigation entails more than talking to the right person once the game allows you to. There are also some very jarring details that don't seem to serve a story purpose. For example, there's a gallows outside the town hall, and a large crucifix inside....

Awesome point&click game! It's brilliant and gives so many vibes from so many different tv shows, books, movies and so on. I don't kno why exactly but it reminds me of Stephen King's THE COLORADO KID, a book I love so much! I'm having such a good quality time playing this game! I can't reccomend it enough!

Cantaloupe Chronicle is a nice and short point-and-click adventure game. It has inventory-based puzzles and interactions with NPCs but no dialog puzzles, logic puzzles or minigames. The 3D models and animations are perhaps a little too simplistic, but the design of the locations is quite good. There's almost no voice acting. Some content is missable; apparently I did a rather poor job of exploring the town at nighttime, and some encounters are available only on certain days. The puzzles are simple but still quite enjoyable. Item descriptions, dialogs and Fanny's comments provide lots of hints. One minor annoyance -- way too common in point-and-click games -- is that the interaction prompt for some objects changes from Examine to Use only when those objects become relevant for a puzzle. But since the game is quite simple, and it's almost always clear what we need to do next, this never becomes a serious issue. In fact, sometimes this change works as an extra hint. The notebook show...

I've played the game for a bit now, after the graphics caught my interest. It's a rather unique style, and the handling / UI is different than most games in the adventure genre. That being said, I do think it's a unique and fun game, although it might not be for everyone.
