About This Game

Lord of the Dungeon, heroes are coming!

Slay or Fall is a text-based roguelike with management elements, in which you must overcome an impending foe within a set number of events. Playing as the Dark Lord, you are set to take control of an enormous Dungeon while brave heroes are coming to take your life! Use magic, scheme, and issue orders to your subordinates — just make sure to defeat the heroes before the final clash!
The multifaceted text events contain numerous branches, with every choice you make having consequences that affect both the heroes and the player!
Between events, you'll need to engage in combat skirmishes and tackle political issues, where the player's decisions also carry weight!

Will your subordinates help you?

Under your dominion reside four factions: Goblins, Cultists, Lizards, and Ratfolks. Not all of them are pleased with your rule...
Goblins - greedy and dishonorable creatures. Their sheer numbers and insatiable lust for profit fill your treasury with jingling coins.
Cultists - your endlessly loyal subjects. Dark mages willing to stake their lives for your victory! As a result, they are few in number...
Lizards - warriors of honor and brute force. They hold little affection for magic, dedicating themselves to logistics within the Dungeon.
Ratfolks - pesky beings who can never accept their fate! They are the most actively resistant to your will. Yet, by subduing this people, you can harness their espionage and assassination skills for your own needs...

Replayability

The game is designed for multiple runs. A variety of presets, diverse heroes, and text events with different outcomes and consequences all ensure that you keep coming back for more!
Defeat your foes as cunningly as you desire! Kill the heroes in battle, vanquish them in your domain, let them starve, corrupt their minds, lower their morale, orchestrate conspiracies, and sow discord among travelers!

So what are you waiting for, Sire? Make the heroes flee without delay!

Good simple game for $5, but game design leaves a lot to be desired. - Individual battles, especially in the beginning, are extremely skewed. 90% of the time, you won't do any meaningful damage to the heroes, and the other 10% of the time, when you've weakened them outside of battle, they won't be able to do anything meaningful to your units. - Unit AI is extremely stupid, even for an auto-battler. - Like the other English review mentions, the hero Cleric is broken strong, easily able to heal the hero party to 100% each battle, while your units die for nothing because they can't directly target the Cleric. - Sadist with Seed of Darkness is similarly broken, perhaps even more so (every rest spot, the hero party is healed to 100% health and sanity) - Despite these flaws, it's extremely easy to break this game once you figure out the ropes. Just pick Politician as your lord, keep making positive choices to increase all factions' friendliness, use Mutilation Magic on heroes every re...

It's a nice narrative game, with a lot of (possibly AI) art, and well written choice-based text events. Gets some time and effort to get into, and the replayability isn't really there (it doesn't really work as a roguelike, and the events are pretty deterministic, so they get familiar). But it was a nice experience for the first 5 hours.

Fun game. More complex than I thought it would be, in a good way. Lots of learning to be done and new things pop up even after 7 hours in. Well worth the money.

Really cool concept. I had fun playing this one for a bit. I got through one play through, I may go through some more. Some of the decisions I had to make weren't clear on what the outcome would actually impact. It could be I just wasn't paying enough attention, and if they went negatively I just shrugged and trekked on. I am not a big fan of the RNG-based outcomes, but it wasn't enough for me to turn this review to a negative.

Cheap and fun, good replay value with a lot of events and some hard challenges to reach for

Delightful and cheap game about being an evil overlord. While not that deep this game offers enjoyable time trying to overcome bands of heroes invading your peaceful tyranny. This game offers some strategic depth and choices as you have to choose how you plan on defeating each hero and how to use resources to do that - having to have some stores of gold and mana to deal with political considerations, fighting heroes and other potential uses. Honestly this feels like a proper computer game with interesting gameplay - it has refreshingly unique feeling to it that I deeply appreciate as too many games feel like copies of each other as games attempt to perfect some particular formula, and that is sufficient to make this game worth buying in my opinion. It is short and it has some interesting story elements creating an unique experience that accomplishes telling short stories about particular lich trying to fend off bands of heroes. After a while you learn what each option for each even...

Great concept deeply hampered by obnoxious rules (the heroes have a "Nuh uh, I don't die, in fact I get all my health back *and* I have a huge buff that insures you're likely to lose" mechanic), and most events being designed to punish you for not winning RNG. There's even an event that gives you absolutely nothing -- unless you pick the wrong option, then you get a lowered opinion of one of your factions.

Decent game, like a more hands on version of Sort the Court. But the only game mode at the moment are quick matches, when really I would've liked something that went on for longer.
