About the Game

About this game

Hi, I’m Niklas – the developer of Small Spaces. My goal is to make a game that puts you into a creative flow without you even noticing. And a lot of the player feedback has been exactly that. So, if you’re looking for a relaxing game to take your mind off stressful thoughts, Small Spaces might be just the creative escape you were looking for :)

What can you expect?

Shape the space your way

Turn the small spaces fully upside down with your creativity! Modular kitchens? Loft apartments? Find smart solutions and design unique spaces that are functional and beautiful. Add indirect lighting, plants and more to decorate and personalize your space down to the smallest detail.

Inspired by real places

On Early Access start, you’ll design in 3 different locations:

  • New York – raw industrial factories and warehouses turned into gorgeous loft apartments with high ceilings and expansive windows.

  • Berlin – historic apartments with the typical 1900 european charm and beautiful bay windows. Think vintage charm meets quiet elegance.

  • Tokyo – mid-century inspired simplistic apartments with sliding doors and sometimes warm concrete wall finishes.

Together, these offer 9 apartments, each with a distinct layout and creative feel. More locations and styles will be added throughout Early Access.

Stories that guide

Every space has its own objectives, story and people who live there – ranging from a student in a shared flat to a couple sharing their first apartment together. The objectives inspire to design spaces that are not only pretty, but also practical and give you just enough inspiration to get started while not restricting your creativity.

Carefully crafted high quality assets

The game already features more than 500 furniture and decor items inspired by different styles – including comfy scandinavian beds, unique modern japanese lamps and decoration items from a record player to sewing utensils.

I truly care about original art and all of the beautiful illustrations in the game are hand drawn from an illustrator.

Walk through your creations in first person

Switch to a first-person view to experience your design from the inside – like someone who actually lives there and view your creations as the sunlight shifts from crisp morning to warm golden hour to cozy nighttime with the glow of the indirect lighting you set up.

Unlock new content as you play

You start out with just a portion of tools and furniture at your hand and unlock new content as you complete objectives. Get new materials from stone terrazzo to various wood types and unlock new tools to build loft apartments, modular kitchens or wall panels. The more you create, the more options you gain.

I recommend buying this game if:

  • You play life sims mostly for home design

  • You like relaxing games that spark your creativity

  • You’re a design lover or architecture nerd

It might not be for you if:

  • You want to design floor plans from scratch – we’re building a creative mode where you can build your own layouts, but as of now you furnish existing apartments.

  • You’re expecting to import your own models or textures – that kind of freedom isn’t in the game (yet!)

I really enjoy the concept of the game, but it needs a bit of optimisation I've tried to run it several times now, turning down the settings (especially graphics) each time but it keeps freezing and lagging. Even at the lowest of options, I can't run the game (takes up a ton of processing power and memory on my PC) I hope this is fixed because the concept is genuinely really neat! But for now, I can't really recommend it in its current state

this game is great and fun, and i love the concept. but, it could be even better if you added a sandbox mode where you could change the layout of the apartment and have everything unlocked, without any limits. just decorating. thank you!!

Game is perfect for a cozy building gaming, absolutely stress free with only little goals and objectives. Though, I don't recommend playing the game yet at it's current state. It's very evident that it's incomplete once you play, but if you want to really give it a try to see for yourself, or perhaps support the developer in the game's development, there is no harm to that as well as it is pretty nice. You can see the vision of the developers. There are ups and down given that it is an early access. You can see from even the live of the developer that the game's fps is dropping often. I wish there was an option of free building, as in a complete blank canvas where we'll be the one to add walls, make the entire lay out and etc; sandbox mode. It feels a little limiting to just build in the given layouts, I was expecting to be the one to make the layouts. Would be awesome too to see other player's free building visions too. The layouts is good as an objective or goal thing, but free-...

If, like me, you have a soft spot for decorating this game will scratch that itch perfectly. I love how the small spaces still allow for so much creativity, big bonus that more items can be unlocked. Thanks for creating this gem!

Actually I don't remember buying this game. It's early access so a lot of things are missing. I played for a bit and got bored easily, after decorating a room it feels too empty. Definitely need more accessories. Maybe I'll give it another chance after the games develops more.

Awesome game, allows you to be creative even with so few items. I think that part to it makes it more enjoyable as the end result allows so many options. I could easily spend many many hours in this. Looking forward to more updates.

Art direction and game design are superb. It has a decent amount of content and would be fun if it didn't run incredibly bad. Runs at 30fps on low with forced upscaling while using 100% of the GPU and a lot of CPU and memory. Computer begs me to close it. Things don't look sharp, outside of screenshots things are blurry & noisy and lights/shadows flickery. I hope they are able to tone down the post-processing and optimize the game as they intend it to run on a Steam Deck which has weaker hardware and battery constraints. As as it's in early access I will cut a slack.

I'm absolutely loving this game, it's fun and easy to pick up. The graphics are great (although this could be a problem for lower-end PCs) and the levels are well designed. The only real gripes I have with this game are just the same the befall any early access game: There isn't enough items and levels and there isn't a sandbox mode. But the developers seem really attentive and these problems are really the same for any early access game. Would definitely recommend! Just don't be put off by some of the negative reviews that complain about lack of content in an early access game. Has amazing potential!
