Leyline Chronicles makes a strong first impression with its stylish presentation and surprisingly engaging combat. The battle system is one of the game’s standout features, using a combo mechanic that’s reminiscent of Legend of Legaia. Stringing together attacks feels impactful and adds a satisfying rhythm to combat, especially since skills have different effects and some combinations can trigger powerful finishers. Visually, the game is mostly gorgeous. The environments are well done, but there are a few areas where the lighting is far too bright, making it difficult to see anything in certain spots. There’s a gear upgrade system, item crafting, and according to an NPC I spoke with a ring fusion system, though I haven’t reached that part yet.
