About This Game

MEET EZRA WESTMARK

The Thin Silence is a narrative adventure game told through the introspection and recollection of Ezra Westmark. Inspired by games such as Limbo and Knytt Stories, follow the journey of Ezra from his self-imposed exile to forgiveness and hope.

The Thin Silence explores depression, self-doubt, struggles, and trials. Amongst the darkness, the game features that sound, that thin silence, which calls to us in our darkest hours. That sound we can’t hear or describe which somehow gives us the strength to try again and push through obstacles previously insurmountable.
It’s not a game about success.

It’s a game of enduring your worst moment and facing the next one. Walk with Ezra out of the darkness, uncovering the journey that led him there and the hope that leads him home.

EXPERIENCE THE STORY

• Enjoy 4-5 hours of unique and varied challenges driven by a fresh item-vs-environment interaction mechanic.
• Experience breathtaking vistas & quiet contemplation
• Uncover Ezra’s crisis and his journey back, finding answers and a little bit of yourself along the way
• Featuring a moving original score by LightFrequency
• Over 40 unique in-game documents
• Mostly believable hacking sequences

PROUD AFFILIATE OF

The Thin Silence has strong themes of depression, suicide and negative mental health. If you're going through a hard time, we can't promise miracles, but we do promise you hope. People don't cope sometimes. That's okay. But help isn't far away. So many people would love for you to get better.

Pros: Pervasive depressing atmosphere Puzzles are fun, especially towards the end Good soundtrack Existential crisis benches Has shock boots Cons: Walking felt a *tad* too slow Puzzles can have fail states requiring a checkpoint reload A bit hard to grok some of the story Inventory and crafting can be tedious; a few times I didn't realise what combinations of items I hadn't tried and it nearly made me quit (exacerbated by no gamefaqs being out yet) Some hacking riddles were too hard and had to brute force No fire boots Despite the cons I enjoyed the game and it definitely succeeded at what it was trying to do. I do wish the character's turmoil had more representation in the gameplay (e.g. like when you want to read that note and the character refuses). 7/10

I didn't understand it all but it gave me a cry. When a game shows signs of understanding you, it's something else.

Reasons I refunded this game: 1) A game that says will explore dark themes of the human psyche really doesn't need a clumsy crafting system. Open craft menu, select New Item, use wheel to select an item, then again for second item, then again for third item, confirm. Why does it feel like I'm playing a console port? 2) I've seen a lot of bad control schemes but this one takes the cake. [Down] to interact, [A] to use and [Enter] to open the crafting menu from which you can then press [Q] to open the Main menu.... Why does it feel like I'm playing a lazy console port? 3) Controls cannot be changed. [Esc] does nothing, to quit the game you have to press [Enter] and then [Q] and then navigate to the quit option. Why does it feel like I'm playing a very lazy console port? 4) Mouse not supported. Not even in the main menu. Why does it feel like I'm playing a very, very lazy console port?

The Thin Silence is a very slow-paced dark and moody puzzle-platformer about a traumatized man who did bad things in wartime and now has to deal with the psychological backlash. While progressing through the game, your avatar Ezra is slowly coming to grips with his past. The storytelling is well done and engaging. The atmosphere in this game is very depressed, the ambient sound track fits that mood (it’s really good by the way). The pixel graphics and backgrounds look good and work well for the game. The gameplay centers around progressing through the map by solving logic and word puzzles. The map is mostly strictly linear, only in the M18 facility can you wander around exploring the map a bit more freely. In my opinion the best part of this game is the crafting system, were Ezra has to make new and useful items out of the stuff he finds, like a boot, rope, battery, etc. He needs these items and crafted tools to solve the puzzles. I enjoyed playing The Thin Silence. I never got st...

One of the worst games I've ever played. I'm no judge to any kind of game and genre. However, this game is just doing everything it wanted to do bad. -Character is sooooooooo slow to move around. -Puzzles are OMG so bad just kicking rolling stone to somewhere and does not make sense. -UI design is just horrible. Why would I want to feel depressed by walking slowly and starting to read notes. I assure you I'm fucking depressed and hate life. I hated this game more than my life. Thank you for showing me there is something worse than my miserable life. Plus, when game gave me achievement when I kicked the electric symboled box, I hated more cause it decreased my total game complation on steam. You can feel depressed and sad in movies such slow paced scenery, calm music and dark atmosphere, but not a game like this. Side scroll with low pixel art cannot immerse you with it.
