About This Game

Hirogami is a 3D action platformer inspired by the ancient Japanese art of origami (paper folding). Everything you encounter has been crafted to convey the physical, often fragile, natural world of paper, amidst a story interwoven with threads of wistful intrigue.

Discover new forms to traverse the world, solve puzzles, and best your foes. Roll through obstacles and enemies alike as a hardy Armadillo, traverse the treetops and pound pests as a mighty Ape, and leap to previously unreachable heights as a formidable Frog.

A powerful force of digital creatures - the Blight - is invading the world, defiling the delicate natural balance that has held sway for an age. As Hiro, an enigmatic performer (and master of the art of folding) from Shishiki village, it falls to you to cleanse the mind-warped inhabitants of this world, and to bring peace back to the land.

Explore every nook and cranny and discover all the world’s hidden secrets. Unfold into a sheet of paper to ride fiery updrafts, or to slide under deadly traps. Or become a paper plane to traverse dangerous chasms.

This origami world is a fragile place, and you’ll need your wits about you to protect it. Wield Hiro’s paper fan to blow away the Blight, or pound, pummel, or poison them using your litany of papery powers.

Bask in a soundscape composed using traditional Japanese instruments and styles - specially crafted to evoke the variety of themes, characters and settings of Hirogami.

This game is the type of platformer that hearkens back to the platformers popular during the 6th generation, while also feeling reminiscent in some ways of the game Tearaway. While I could see the camera annoying some players, it's really no different from games like Crash Bandicoot which are beloved so it makes me question the critics' motivation for the low scores. The combat is relatively derivative and not particular deep as well but the focus is on the pathfinding and platforming, not combat. The graphics are stunning and again remind me of Tearaway as well as Okami. The sound is nice and gives a peaceful zen feeling. This game is worth it if you enjoy platformers.

Great game! Beautiful graphics, fun gameplay...takes me back to the PS2 era when platformers were magical things... There are some issues with depth perception, and a feeling of disconnected combat, but the game more than makes up for that in other ways. 5 stars!

Early review, but the first few levels have made good usage of the various folding techniques and animal forms to add depth to the platforming experience. With each new form unlocked, both the navigation and combat gain more depth, and add more challenge when it comes to completing the extra objectives each level for additional rewards. At the beginning, the story seems to be fairly straightforward, but the main character hints at more depth to their backstory than being a generic hero. Art-wise, I really like the designs and how well the animation seems to imitate stop motion really adds to the atmosphere, and also allows the changing between forms to happen more smoothly than I initially expected. All-in-all, I look forward to what will come next, and can recommend this if the trailer seems interesting to you.

High level of quality and polish, with a focused and clear scope. Simple, challenging, fresh, and (most importantly) fun. I'll update after I've finished a playthrough.
