Disclaimer: If steam had a neutral review option, this would definitely be one. The game is great, just not for players like me. Rain world has an amazing world, art and atmosphere. And it has by far the most well thought ecosystem in a video game I've ever seen. But it also has things some players like me might not like. If you like wandering around aimlessly and getting lost in the world the game offers, you might like this game. However this game has a severe lack of directing the player and giving a positive feedback of accomplishment. There's basically a no concept of "what you're supposed to do" in this game. You just wander around, survive and explore. And I sadly do not have the patience to try every single possible option in order to make a slight progress in the game especially when the game definitely isn't the easiest in it's genre. I'd really love to enjoy this game but I just can't, if the things I've mentioned isn't a huge deal for you it's worth giving a try. But it jus...

About the Game
You are a slugcat. The world around you is full of danger, and you must face it – alone. Separated from your family in a devastating flood, you will need to find food and shelter between terrifying torrential downpours which threaten to drown all life. Climb through the ruins of an ancient civilization, evade the jaws of vicious predators, and discover new lands teeming with strange creatures and buried mysteries. Find your family before something makes a meal of you!
Inspired by the simplicity and aesthetics of 16-bit classics, this survival platformer requires clever decision-making, both to catch your own prey and to avoid the jaws of hungry predators. Each ravenous foe in your path will be cunning, vicious and always on the hunt – eager to sink their teeth into you, or even each other. As a small, soft slugcat you must rely on stealth and wit rather than force: learn the ecosystem and turn their strengths to your advantage. Maybe then you can survive… Rain World!

User Reviews
(Tip: Don't listen to the reviews with less than 3 hours of playtime) This game is super fun if you're up for a challenge. It's got such an impressive diverse ecosystem with real-time creature ai, and the map is absolute eye-candy. It deserves a better rating, but it's definitely an unforgiving game. Just remember that dying in this game is a huge part of it and I think the lore writes the nature of this game really well.
This game isn’t bad; I’m just disappointed that I don’t like it. My first three hours were apprehensive and exciting unlike anything I've ever played before, and I love games that withhold context and force the player to deeply think. But it quickly deteriorated into mundanity for three main reasons: the visuals and sounds of most areas are homogeneous (never mind that the music didn't often function properly), threats quickly became nonthreatening since most are introduced in the first few areas, and the vaguely telegraphed objectives had me discover almost the entire map across ~50 hours before I advanced the story even once. I think these are all legitimate justifications for my frustration, and even if my 76-hour playthrough is abnormally long for one playthrough, this could've easily been avoided because I don't actually think any of these problems were mistakes. Despite my frustration, I always suspected that this game was special, and I'm happy that I had the patience to d...
10/10, would eat white lizard again. Fodder for the chonkcat
amazing game, amazing creatures, amazing environments, amazing ecosystem, my jaw has dropped a numerous amounts of times in reaction to some of the creatures i run into for the first time, its extremely difficult but in the best way possible, you almost always learn something after every death and you end up figuring out what to do and/or get past a section right before it gets annoying, just dont uninstall the game at any point because the steam cloud doesnt store save data, i had to restart lol
i do not find this game fun. but you should still play it. the movement is reminiscent of a dog with only 2 legs, and anything and everything is stronger than you and will go out of its way to ruin your day. whether its the copious quantities of florida gators, the numerous arachnophobia triggers, the local tribesman who have a "kill on sight policy" for you because you pissed them off at some point in the past, or the giant tentacle-birds who will forcefully drag you up to heaven whenever you poke your little head out of the ground. this is a survival game, and as fun as this game appears at a glance, the only reward you get for overcoming adversity is more survival. there aren't any real enemies, just a series of ridiculous animals like you, living in a world controlled by forces outside of their understanding. if you do have the will to make it through this games BS, you get to piece together a genuinely fascinating story. i wont blame you if you decide to do literally anything...
This game is not for the weak. You WILL die alot, and it will absolutely rip your very soul out if you try to play this game. But thats part of the fun, you explore, you die, you learn, you get better, the cycle repeats.
This game is a work of art. The challenging almost souls like gameplay may be brutally hard but the story and lore make up for it ten fold. I highly recommend you try the game as the gameplay is not the only factor to this masterpiece.
although i really do like this game, i cant recommend this because only a certain group of people can actually enjoy this game for what it is, a brutal and accurate nature immersive sim. if you like difficult yet fun/funny games this is 100% for you, but if you games like animal crossing then you'd hate this game. 10/10, fuck those dropwigs and scavs
I wanted to like this game, but I didn't like the controls, the visuals, or the checkpoint system. When you die, you get sent back pretty far, and it's frustrating. I can't really think of anything I liked about this game, so I'm surprised by the overwhelmingly positive rating. I thought it might be like Super Meatboy meets Ori, but it's nowhere near as good as either. Maybe, I didn't play it long enough? I gave up after about 30 min in my video below. https://youtu.be/pbpJGn4-gPQ
