About This Game

Welcome to Kill the Brickman, a turn-based rogue-like brick breaker inspired by retro arcade madness.

Build your own bullet-blasting loadouts by combining relics, clip layouts, and bizarre bullets that explode, corrode, and multiply. Every run is a new experiment. Every build is a puzzle. Every bullet is a brick-busting tool to bring home the bank.

Shoot your way through chapters, face off against powerful bosses, and uncover synergies that turn your humble pee shooter into a galaxy-defying hand cannon. With hundreds of relics and a variety of build options, the depth here goes way deeper than just aim and fire.

MAIN MISSION

Choose a chapter, choose your weapon, grab an extra mission from the intergalactic bounty board if you're feeling brave enough, and fire your way to victory. Victory isn't easily earned however, so make sure you build and stack correctly to walk away with the cash.

LOADOUT

Pick your shooter, each with a unique set of starting abilities, and pay attention to Clips in the Shop that grant even more abilities to your bullets; which yes, also have abilities. It's just ability on top of ability here. Create a build and bolster your power with Relics, which yes, also have abilities.

LOCATIONS

Choose a chapter, select your sidearm, grab an extra mission from the intergalactic bounty board if you're feeling brave enough, and fire your way to victory. Victory isn't easily earned however, so make sure you build and stack correctly to walk away with the cash.

BULLET POINTS (GET IT???)

  • Accept extra missions if you think you can handle the pressure, big payoffs await the brave

  • Remember to blow your bank at the Shop, re-roll if your needs aren't met!

  • Keep a keen eye on Facilities when they appear, they may just work in your favor

While I love the concept and what I’ve played so far has been very fun, I can’t recommend the game in its current state. Unfortunately, it’s very buggy on release—not just in minor ways, but in serious, game-breaking ways. I’ve played for about 90 minutes and only managed one or two full runs, since I often get blocked and have to abandon them before I can finish, successfully or not. At only five bucks, I don’t feel it’s worth refunding because I’d still like to support the developer, and continue playing in the future. That said, I’d strongly recommend waiting for some stability updates before pulling the trigger if you're on the fence about it.

Has quite possibly one of the worst CRT filters I've ever experienced in a game, and has absolutely no way to turn it off. I can't and wont play again until that's resolved. Also, I encountered a bug not one minute into loading the game that put me into the gallery while trying to select to do the tutorial?

The game is unfinished. I don't recommend it partly for that reason but it does not deserve a thumbs down. It is a good game even with all it's problems and a fun one if you know what you are doing. It should be marked as Early Access and should also be marked as difficult. It should also have mod support. If it had all those 3 at launch, it would have positive reviews. It isn't actually difficult if you have experience with hardcore deckbuilders like Slay The Spire or Balatro but if you don't, then you will probably hate the game because the tutorial does not prepare you for the real game. The other thing is the progression system is inexcusable. Every class starts off powerless and the same so when you unlock a new class it's almost the same as deleting your save file and starting a new game. In the 4hrs that I played this I only unlocked 2 levels for the starting class and it felt like a chore rather than something I would unlock naturally like in Slay The Spire or Balatro. This...

"Kill the Brickman" has potential to be better, but probably not for me. Worst thing for me from the start - game is heavily lacking of better explanations. Tutorial is overwhelmed with one-time only information, you just get 3 minutes of rushed basics and that's it. Instead of creating some sort of tutorial chapter with properly designed levels to teach player every aspect like shopping, ammo storage, bullet types, keywords, mission deals, clips you should use in special way to get extra damage and perks from it, and many other things, there is missing UI elements for reward structure, no real details and stats, and why the hell bullets simetimes flies where they want? Or at least it feels that way. Either I was just too tired, or there is a problem with overwhelming amount of things game asks you to understand at the same time. But anyway, bad for me. Second, and maybe the worst overall thing for me - because levels are so packed with many (sometimes very tough) bricks, there is no...

Honestly its just not good. Needs a lot of work. Even the tutorial feels like its not telling me fully what to do and is a bit confusing and just when I think I understand what to do another thing that I wasn't told about is introduced that I now have to figure out as well there is a huge difference between hand holding to a point that its insulting and just being purposely obtuse and this feels like it can't find a balance between the two.

Game seems really solid but thumbs downing because... releasing a roguelike in 2025 with no continue run features is insane to the point of me wondering if this was forced to be released? bro, if the bazaar has online-lite components, why can i continue that run but this single player offline game doesn't have it? cant recommend it until they add it (and they will).

Picked this up on a total whim based on the art and my lunch break went by in a snap. It's really fun and, as I'm writing this, I'm actively looking forward to getting back and putting more time into it. It feels GREAT to play!! It's got the JUICE!!

I love Balatro and I love Peggle. Somehow this game is a mix of the two with none of the fun. It bills itself as a super satisfying experience where you can get the ball trapped between bricks bouncing back and forth. However, the game is deliberately designed to never allow these openings. If you manage to make an opening, it'll place generic blocks or traps there after the turn. Game mechanics are really confusing too. I'll have a bullet bounce some 20 times followed by a bullet that bounces twice and it's not clear why.

An interesting and fun take on the rogue-like genre. This is very similar to Block Breakers. There are a lot of different combinations to try out; reading through the various relics and clips gave me a lot of ideas to try out. For a recently released game at this price point, it's a great game and a great time killer. I didn't encounter any of the bugs mentioned in the reviews for my play-through. The only bug that I've encounter was the "Color Synergy" relic not changing all bullets into the same color but that only happened a couple times and wasn't too game breaking. In future updates, I would love to see updates to: -Wording: The current wording is a bit unclear when explaining certain mechanics and missions. -Missions: Many of the missions are repetitive and the rewards don't feel impactful. -Shop: I would like to see more clips/relics/bullets and cost diversity. Items should have varied prices, forcing me to think carefully on how to spend my gold

I honestly don't understand a lot of the negative feedback, the game is fun with a simple gameplay loop that doesn't try to be anything it isn't and for a very affordable price. While i'm not saying there aren't any I've had no bugs so far though with a reputable team behind the game i'd imagine they will be patched out soon. People are complaining about it not explaining things when it's written on the objects in the game if you hover over it and it tells you what to do, it's like complaining about binding of isaac not explaining every item and synergy, you just play and figure it out which to me is half the fun, it gives you all the tools to figure out how to play the game. Though my one thing i wish I could change: speeding up the round setup animations of all the bricks.
