About This Game
Control Settings
This game was made in Pixel Game Maker MV and runs at 30 FPS. Game language, screen size, screen shake, and key config settings can be accessed by pressing the F1 key on your keyboard. Other settings can be changed in the OPTIONS menu in-game.
Mysterious T.O.K.Y.O.
Welcome to Nitro City, Tokyo Special Administrative Region! The metropolis of Tokyo is a bit different from what we know, but the streets are just as nostalgic, or, depending on where you're from, they're just as good as the place you've always wanted to visit.
Companions / Atypical Vehicles
Autonomous drones, affectionately called "Companions", have been integrated into daily life, but in cop terms, they're referred to as "Atypical Vehicles".
When they pose a significant threat to society, it's time for the Atypical Vehicle Disposal Squad (AVDS)—a special unit of the Nitro City police force—to commence their mission to destroy all rogue vehicles!
Shoot 'Em Up!
Good news: you can bring as much ammo as you want... and that includes grenades!
After just a little bit of cooldown, the lightning bolt of destruction will return to your hands. Ah, how wonderful! Just like magic!
Gadgets and Gizmos
Tired of traditional grenades? Why not try out the EMP, damage-dealing radio-controlled drones, auto-firing turrets, flamethrowers, anti-tank missiles, and more? There's sure to be at least one out of the 12 different cool gadgets that'll catch your eye.
Understand Your Guns
By assuming a more stable shooting position, your bullets will hit targets more accurately and deal more damage.
You can shoot some guns like SMGs while walking without caring about that, since they're for close-range anyway, but the bigger the gun, the more it's affected by your positioning. Stand still and aim carefully to use them properly.
Large Armored Targets
Oh no! We're under attack by tanks and helicopters! Whatever can we do~?!
Rifles and SMGs don't do much to armored targets. You could totally stick with them and show them your perseverance, but you could hit them harder where it hurts with more powerful firearms and gadgets.
Radio Comms
Story dialogue in stages are all contained in the police radio comms, which can be accessed at anytime and are completely optional. Which means you can ignore them completely if you want.
Great for multiple playthroughs, or for people who think the story sections of video games are basically the same as the instruction manual of an electric toothbrush.
And more...
There's more fun where that came from!

The little dog robot that follows you around is so annoying that it makes the game unplayable. It's visual noise that makes it difficult to focus on my character and the bullets, plus I'm always trying to shoot it because it kind of looks like an enemy. I physically couldn't play anymore after a couple of levels because it made me so angry. You can turn the dog "off", but that just means it won't shoot to assist you. It'll just stick around being a visual nuisance that LOOKS like an enemy but isn't, while spamming "cute" holograms incessantly. I was also sad that I couldn't play with the D-pad and was forced to use the analog stick. But the game seems to be designed around precision shooting, giving critical damage for headshots, etc. I'm skeptical of this design, but I can't say for sure that it's a mistake because I've played for less than an hour. I'll probably check the patch notes once in a while. I'm not optimistic the game will get better, but I can't refund it because I waite...
Excellent game for fans of Metal Slug, with gorgeous art and an impressive amount of detail in the weapon animations. It can be kinda hard to read the screen at times, though, and aiming is tough with a controller, so stick to KB+M.
My ONLY gripe with this game is that enemy bullets are the same color as yours. This is basically a Shmup, but you are a crawler than a jet. the control is kida stiff so you can't spam dodge or jumps, but that's it. Very simple and cool thing. Oh and I wish you had more weapons. You get a lot of guns at the start that is REALLY just higher capacity. Oh, oh, and the flip from side to side when aiming the opposite directions, could be more incremental, especially when it comes to aiming closer to yourself. Very fun and simply energetic game. Oh OH, oh, the tank boss if Fuckin stupid. It gets rid of projectiles that don't even touch it, to try and force hard angles, Stop with the stupids pls, and thank you. Actually it was the MOST fun I had in the game since I had to navigate its Bullshiz. But having a Damage PHASE when you have to shoot the same area with no differance is dumb and misleading, Especially when the Weapon that is SUPPOSED TO ALWAYS wonk on a tank(Anti-tank MISSILE) O...
Super fun! The pixel art has a ton of personality for the funny characters and story, and the music choices were great. By the way for the other reviewers who mentioned liking the soundtrack, it's from Dova Syndrome which is like a licensed out music library. Not sure if they list the credited names of the tracks anywhere but you could try digging around there maybe. I'm not the most versed in Metal Slug or other arcade run and gun sidescrollers but you can definitely feel the influence. The aiming can be a bit hit or miss (heh) depending on your control style. I did about half of the game on controller, the other half on KBM. When I played with weapons like Shotguns or the PDW, they didnt need to kneel for extra damage or really worry about being accurate so controller was fine. If you play with the marksman rifle or especially the LMG, I recommend KBM since you will need the kneeling damage bonus and want to make every hit count. There is also a little bit of clunk with mouse aimin...
its cute
Being a fan of a couple arcade side-scrolling run-and-guns like Metal Slug and Contra, I hadn't many expectations for Nitro Express. While I've seen footage of the game in development on Twitter here and there, I more or less forgot it existed until I saw it was out. Having played Nitro Express thoroughly, I do like the game a lot, but there are a couple hiccups here and there (as the Discussions board is very elaborate and disgruntled about) that personally didn't detract from my experience. Nitro Express keeps a fun and somewhat frantic pace as a side-scrolling run-and-gun with free-aim, and while it took a lot of getting used to (namely how busy the screen can be at times), I'd highly recommend it if anyone's a fan of the aforementioned items. The game wears its goals and mission statement on its sleeve, but it can be a little confusing (and even frustrating) to players who are uninitiated to what the game wants the player to do. Your player character moves at a less-than-brisk p...
Imagine if they made a modern version of Gunsmith Cats that took place in a slightly Patlabor inspired world with Gainax style artwork and snark, and you've got an idea what this game feels like. The controls and movement takes some adjusting to, it may look like Metal Slug but it plays more like those old side scroller mech games on the PC 98 or the SNES. Think more like a simplified version of Cybernator except you're "piloting" a gun happy anime girl instead of a giant robot. You will get frustrated until it clicks that dodging and jumping over enemy fire is easier than you think it is. Also buy better weapons, seriously. Just replay a few levels until you have enough cash for the LMG and congrats, you are now animu Rambo and have nothing else to complain about. The soundtrack is excellent, and the game is packed with style. The campaign is short if you don't count the time it takes to grind a bit of cash but it feels like a lost episode of a mid 2000's anime and is fun as hell.
Bad control and poor gun-play design ruined the graphics and music.
Well, look at here a game that really takes the inspiration of Metal Slug and I kinda like it. The gameplay of this including the visuals is really gorgeous. Especially the pixel art and the details that are in the game, and also the animation that had alot of effort that was put in. The game is very short and very challenging with the jank ass control scheme, no checkpoints, and including the wheel like camera amps up the difficulty even more giving off a classic era of gaming. I loved the character design and how it gives off that Studio Trigger like vibe. Therefore this game is pretty well made but flawed at the same time. This is a Shmup btw. The enemies are what you expected, unlimited spawn, relentless "Arcade AI", and bullets that track offscreen. Even though I somewhat barely play shmups besides Metal Slug, Touhou, and Rapid reload. I feel like the explosions and enemies feel like im playing playing something that's made by a masochist (im saying this as a good way). Because...
