My one and only Steam review (300+ games in my account), and it’s well deserved. Honestly this game mixes nostalgia with addition, I just can't get enough. The Developer is super responsive, active and taking feedback onboard. Like many others I first played the original on the Amiga, it was graphically ahead of its time and set the standard for future games. The Developer has done a great job in recreating an old school classic. I can't praise the work done here enough. This will be the closest I get to time travel in my lifetime.

I have been really enjoying the game so far, I used to play Project X on my Amiga (and still do occasionally) and this feels like a nice evolution of the original, especially removing some annoying/frustrating issues with the original game. I have not completed the game, so what I am writing is based on what I have seen in the first 4 levels. Love the graphics, (although not a fan of the very thick purple outlines on the large rocks in the space levels - it makes them feel flat - but is a minor thing). The spaceships, bosses, and backgrounds look great. Reminiscent of the original designs but with a crisp, refreshed look. Music and sound effects are awesome. A bit more variation in the music from the first 2 levels would be welcome as it can get repetitive if you play those levels over and over :). Don't get me wrong, I do like the music, but I hope that with time this can be expanded a bit. Gameplay is lots of fun, with various weapons to explore. I like how some of the ...
It's an absolute delight! Good work team, you've hit this out of the park.
If you remember the original Project X on the Amiga, you’ll know it was a beast of a game—fast, tough, and packed with style. Light Years brings that same energy back, and it does it with real care. It’s not just a remake—it’s a proper tribute. The gameplay feels sharp and satisfying, just like the original, but smoother and more refined. The graphics are updated but still have that classic Amiga vibe, and the soundtrack is a great mix of old-school tunes and modern flair. It’s clear the developers understood what made the original special. What I really love is how this remake doesn’t mess with the formula too much. It respects the source material while making it more playable today. If more Amiga classics got this kind of treatment, I’d happily buy them. Turrican 2, The Settlers, Robocop, New Zealand Story, Superfrog— How about it?
The original Project X is one my favourite Amiga games of all time (the Amiga's answer to R-Type) it's great to see a modern successor to it on the PC licensed by Team 17. The game play is superb and true to the original. The graphics are great as well as the music, great to have the legends Allister Brimble and Chris Hulesbeck involved with this. Fans of the original will love this, and even if you haven't played the original Amiga title this is an amazing 2D side scrolling shooter for the 21st century.
Great remake of an Amiga Classic! I had to buy this after playing the demo. This really brings me back to the 90's. The graphics are a great upgrade. The music is fantastic. Gameplay is just as good, if not better as the original. I really love this game!
If the original Project-X made you want to toss your Amiga out the window, this one will make you want to send the developers a fruit basket. The nostalgia is so real it hurts, but everything is ramped up to eleven. The graphics are absolutely delicious—it looks like a retro game took a sip of future juice. The gameplay is tighter than a drum, and the controls are so smooth you'll be dodging bullets like you've been doing it your whole life. And the soundtrack? Every single track is a certified banger that'll be stuck in your head for weeks. It's the perfect mix of old-school awesome and new-school polish. My high-score addiction is officially back.
One of the best shoot 'em up games I have ever played! Great mechanics, great graphics, great soundtrack, great FUN! For fans of the Amiga 1992 original - A MUST HAVE, for others ... STILL A MUST HAVE! A true masterpiece born of passion with all the creator's heart involved. I should also add the the author of this game is constantly improving it while being in touch with the players and answering all their questions and requests.
Wow! I was brought up with the Amiga and Team 17 classics including Project X, Superfrog, Body Blows, Alien Breed et al. I didn't even realise this game was on the horizon and was excited to see it appear in the store! Demo played and completed, game purchased. What can I say? This is a total banger and a fantastic shooter, harking back to the original game and improving upon it in many ways. The graphical style remains consistent with that beautiful purple-blue theme of the original and the soundtrack is absolutely spot on. Great to see some of the original Team 17 crew involved in the production and development; a fitting tribute to a fantastic space shooter and it's clear that the developers have a love for Project X. This visionary shooter has not only stood the test of time but is blasting it's way forward to a new audience of space fighter aces.
