About This Game

'roll' is a simple meditative 2D endless runner. As an entity of light, explore an infinitely expanding and eroding scape of light and colour as you calm your mind and body. Uncover unique spaces and hidden secrets while collecting Stars to slowly unravel the stories that both surround the world, as well as yourself.

Relax Your Way
From the easy gameplay to the calming visuals and gentle soundscapes, relaxation is key. Play a few shorts run to journey a far as possible while a wall of shadows pursues you to aim for a high-score, or disable the shadows to explore the infinite world at your own pace.

Infinite Journeys
Every world is created uniquely; the regions, weather, secrets, and even the music itself is designed and arranged while you play. Want to revisit, or even share a world? Simply load a world's Seed to regrow it and return.

Collectible Lore
Across your journeys you will uncover Stars, stories in the form of beautifully drawn cards. Each Star not only provides you strength, but weaves deep tales from passages of introspection to interconnected legends.

Cultivate Yourself
After your journeys, you may invest collected Shards into improving your abilities. Instead of having to save for the "next unlock", any amount of Shards spent provides an increase to your capabilities, allowing you to continue to grow so you can explore faster.

Disclaimer: 'roll' has been ported from mobile. It has been updated with unique control schemes and higher-quality graphical rendering, but still maintains simple gameplay and some mid-scale texturing.

I wasn't sure what to expect with this game initially, but was immersed in its visuals and soundscape before I knew it. The audio in particular is gorgeous, with rich ambient music and blissful feedback (the little gong from hitting a wall is sublime). Starting out it was preferable for me to play Zen mode and free-roam, as without upgrades it's very difficult to outpace the Shadow. With some points in speed, I could actually make progress in Shadow -- I can't confirm but it seems you encounter more unlockables in the harder mode. Controller support in menus could be better, but there were enough options provided that I found a happy medium. Instead of "B" for back in menus, you have to use "Start". Most menu pages use right thumbstick + click as a mouse, which is slightly more difficult than flicking around selections with left thumbstick and using "A" to confirm. Save for the 'back' nav arrow, everything had large clickable areas so I'd call it functional but not polished for c...

I purchased this game to try it out as I was intrigued by the photos on the store page. It's quite an interesting concept and I found it very relaxing to play when I'm in the mood for a bit of gaming but nothing too intense that's going to wreck my brain after a long day and this one sort of tick of boxes for me Game-play wise, I definitely prefer to play in "Zen" mode with reduced "glow" and using "mouse control" instead of keyboard, it feels a lot smoother and easier to control where I want to explore. I've attempted "Shadow" mode a few times and it was hard but if you're someone who likes a bit more excitement and intensity then I guess that's the mode for you. Graphic wise, I appreciate that the developer added some elemental details to the game like occasional I'll see a gust of wind and leaves coming through and in some section there's rains, very lovely. In one of the world I explored, there was even a waterfall which was a nice addition along with the birds and dragonflies...
