Cute creature collecting game... sure, I can see it. But to try to sell this as an "idler" or as a game that "easily fits into your routine...while working, studying or relaxing" is downright misleading and a very inaccurate description of the actual game play. It does sit cozily at the bottom of your screen as many idlers do, but that is where the similarities end. You are just constantly clicking for everything!! From collecting the whimlings, crystals (currency) and eggs, from selecting animals to breed and constantly having to navigate the different tabs. You have to be watching and babysitting to see any real progression. The tutorial was helpful. I find I just didn't have the patience. It just doesn't feel very "idle" to me. It felt more of a distraction and soon became an annoyance. This unfortunately was not what I was looking for in my idling experience. If you want something adorable to look at on your screen with the option to click here and there (while still seeing ...
🐾 Whimside Review 🪺
Whimside is a very cute, adorable, cozy little creature collector game that sits down at the bottom of your screen. You collect little Whimlings, breed them, and complete sweet little quests while doing so. But there’s actually a lot more cosy things to do in the game too. Although the game is labelled as an idler, I just want to say you’ll be more actively playing than idling, especially in the beginning. You’ll need to do quite a few upgrades before the game becomes more hands-off. For example, in the breeding area, you only start with one egg slot, and the Whimlings won’t continue breeding if the egg space is full. The music is very charming, a soft and simple tune that fits the vibe perfectly at first. But after a while, I did get a bit bored of it and ended up turning it off. The background sounds, though like the birds chirping, are super sweet and relaxing. Sadly, they come under the same volume as the music, so when you turn the m...
for the small price of 5€ you too can give up the small amount of executive function you still had left
Honestly? Out of all little idle games that reside on the bottom of your stream i have found this one to be the best so far. genuinely beautiful, not overly complicated, especially with your ability to just breed whatever combination you desire. The minimized view also isnt as obnoxious as other games have it, collapsing it into a little frog that will just give you a summary on what happened when you hover over him. I finished the base game within 11h, and im sad to see that i did infact reach the end; however, I surely will be trying to get even better combinations of parts to make my little garden a cozy home of more... diverse critters? Also huge fan of the fact you can change every floortile in the garden area, giving you an opportunity to choose biomes or different flooring like wood and stone bricks. One thing I would love to see in the future would definetly be the ability to stack Water tiles on any biome tile underneath! And, the upper boarder of the garden window m...
So, it's a good game with its ups and downs. I wasn't sure whether to rate it positively or negatively, it's kind of a meh. Don’t pay full price; wait for a really good sale. I really wanted to like the game, but while writting the review I have found that it does not feel like a complete game. Critical issues. - The game uses more PC resources than expected for an idle. - While you can switch monitors and resize the window, you can't move it freely. For example, you can’t place it at the top of the screen. - I ran into achievement issues that I eventually managed to fix, but forum posts show it's a long-standing problem that hasn’t been properly addressed. I feel like I was lucky to finally get it working, which makes me feel uneasy. - You only have one run. There are no multiple save slots in case you want several gardens with different little critters. - No restart option means you’re stuck with your current run, limiting replayability. Nice to have. - A button to automa...
Adorable chill game in the vein of Tiny Pasture, but it has way more elements to it. You don't have to rush to do anything, you collect animals, breed them to mix their anatomy, decorate, and unlock new creatures and places. It's a great idle-lite that won't impede on productivity as it sits at the bottom and optionally minimizes into a little frog man that's way cooler than microsoft clippy as he tells you what's going on in a little speech bubble when you click him so you know whether you should intervene or not. Also this game is made in Godot which is an awesome game design software. Get it.
I really REALLY enjoyed this game, I would just sit and wait for notifications while I crocheted and would collect my eggs for quests or pick up the new critter part I needed or pet one in my garden. I got 3 solid days of gameplay before I ran out of things to do cause I had bought all the items and stuff, so I got my money's worth and I'm still playing it just to have it up, collecting eggs for quests, despite not needing gems. I honestly truly hope they expand on this, add items and parts and new areas, cause I love it <3
Very cute game, doesn't require much attention while it sits at the bottom of your screen as you are occupied with something else. Can check back on it here and there. For more of a hands-on gameplay the breeding part kept me entertained :)
Would love to have the 4 pieces of every pet though. Was kinda sad to see that only a few of them were complete.
I don't recommend this game for steam deck users. The game does work on handheld mode but seems not that great because there is a black screen and you have the bottom of the game. In desktop mode the game is spazzing/glitching and there's pretty much you can't do or change. I was tabbing in and out of the game it does seem to stop but the animation is stuck and can see it reflecting in the background. Hopefully this can be fixed
Very cute little game. It's important to note, as others have, that it's not actually an idler game, even if it looks like one. There's just a lot to do all the tim,e and very little can be automatized. So far, the goals and quests all involve breeding, so it's more a breeding creature collector than a catching game. It's quite relaxing to play though, very low-key and calm. Great for chilling out while still having something to do.
