About the Game

A new legend begins as you step into the steel toe boots of Goro Majima, a man who has lost his memory and reinvents himself as a pirate on the open sea.

Embark on an over-the-top, modern-day pirate adventure with an ex-yakuza, now pirate captain and his crew as they engage in exhilarating combat on land and sea in the hunt for lost memories and a legendary treasure.

■ PIRATE YAKUZA ADVENTURE AHOY!

Goro Majima, a notorious ex-yakuza suddenly finds himself shipwrecked on a remote island in the Pacific. Unable to remember even his own name, he sets sail in search of clues to his lost memories, accompanied by a boy named Noah who saved his life. Before long, they’re caught up in a conflict between cutthroat criminals, modern-day pirates, and other scoundrels over a legendary treasure.

■ GET YOUR SHIP TOGETHER

Assemble a one-of-a-kind crew while upgrading your ship as you explore the open sea and forge your legend in the cannon fire of foes, unexpected friendships, and immense riches made along the way.

When an enemy pirate ship catches you in their sights, an exhilarating real-time cannon battle breaks out. Quickly maneuver into position while avoiding fire, then deliver devastating damage to board the enemy ship and take down the captain in all-out crew vs. crew brawls. Conquer the seas, discover hidden islands and acquire loads of loot like a true yakuza pirate!

■ KICK ARRRSS WITH CREATIVE COMBAT

Dynamically switch between the “Mad Dog” and “Sea Dog” fighting styles to mix-up attacks and deliver explosive combos, juggles, and aerial takedowns that reward your creativity with over-the-top action.

With “Mad Dog” style, utilize speed, agility, and flair to deliver precise yet powerful blows that stun your enemies into submission.

Or make enemies walk the plank with the “Sea Dog” style that has you dual-wielding short swords and deploying tricky pirate tools to kick some serious booty.

Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii is a spin off from the main Like a Dragon series, featuring Goro Majima as the playable character. After waking up on the beach of a small island while suffering from amnesia, Majima joins a pirate crew in search of lost treasure. This is a tricky review to write because much of it is going to sound quite negative. However, I think the biggest factor that is influencing my feelings is that this is the 14th game in the Yakuza franchise that I’ve played, which means that much of PYiH just feels like more of the same. This isn’t a bad game, its just another one.
Story (medium quality)
• Main story is fine. It features a large cast of characters making alliances and betraying each other, but the stakes don’t feel as important as previous games. • The story follows on from the events of Infinite Wealth, and heavily references what Ichiban dealt with on Nele Island, so I would advise playing that game first to avoid spoilers. • Beca...

Yakuza games are like pizza. Even when it's bad it's kinda good. Standard formula besides some really grindy ship battles.

I'll admit, I wasn't expecting much given the title of this game, but I was pleasantly surprised at just how much I enjoyed it! It's a fun spinoff and the theme actually works very well with Goro's eccentric character. The story, honestly, isn't there to be taken seriously and can easily be skipped if you're looking to play through the whole series (you won't be missing anything) - it's just a feel good story featuring everyone's favorite one-eyed yakuza. Returning to Hawaii after playing Infinite Wealth, I could see A LOT of improvements. The side quests felt more true to the Yakuza series, with a good balance of serious and quirky. The ocean effects, while not as pretty as those in Infinite Wealth, ran so much better here (for those that played 8, remember when just looking at the water would crash your game?). The combat was action-packed and lots of fun - much better than what's shown in the demo, imo. And since this is a game about Goro, I did enjoy some of the refe...

Just buy, you must eh savvy. Really fun interlude with Majima as protagonist. Beautiful graphics and an amazing soundtrack. The post-credit scene is a stab to the heart. I can't wait to play Yakuza 9!.

To date the only Yakuza/LAD game that I couldn't finish. I feel like the series has sort of lost its way here.. It's like RGG saw those clips on twitter of people posting the funny substories out of context and were like "hey they really like these" and decided to make that the entire game. Yes, there is another spin-off with zombies, but this game is canon. It's just too far removed from what came before it in terms of overall tone. Between this game and Infinite Wealth being pretty underwhelming for me, It kind of makes me worried for the future of the franchise. Especially with Nagoshi's departure.

If I had a nickel for every time I heard the question "Umm... what's a melon?" I'd have enough to refund this overpriced game many times over. I know enough about the Yakuza series to not take it seriously, but the repetitiveness in this game drastically reduced the fun factor. This game has convinced me to not buy Yakuza games anymore.

- Copy pasted content from the previous game (identical to a word) - The only good music is taken from other SEGA's IPs - Really short main story - Majima loses his flair - not a single fun crazy cutscene, production value dropped - Seafaring is kinda ugly and not challenging, let alone 1 dungeon reused for every island - 5 seconds in, omits language barrier and everyone is 200% Japanese IN HAWAII They could've given everyone more purpose, like helping Majima regain self by re-creating memories, Majima kensetsu, maybe Saejima's dojo, let him try different jobs (food delivery is already there), etc. Proly to late for most, but Yakuza 7, Gaiden, and Pirates aren't worth it - too standalone. Yakuza 8 - 100% worth it for new people and veterans alike. + Good effort with the ships overall + A couple of decent side-quests + Customization + Real time combat is super hype + Family-friendly Waiting for Stranger Than Heaven and a Yakuza MMORPG. Ryu ga gotoku studio is ...

I don't write a lot of reviews but I have to say the game disappointed me enough that it made me do this. I think a lot of people were excited to play as Majima what with the whole pirate shenanigans but with how excruciatingly slow the sea exploration is, you're better off getting the game at lower than 50% discount and even then, I could not say if the experience would be worth it. The story's okay if you have zero expectations of what a spinoff should be. Sidequests were pretty scant for a Yakuza game. The fmv section was cringier than usual (you can skip them) but I'm sure some people enjoyed it. The game doesn't have much to offer in terms of what happened post-Y8 in contrast to what Kiryu Gaiden did for Y7 and Y8. Personally, the only thing that truly ruined the experience for me was purely the ship combat.
The entire squid fight is a testament to how janky it is.
All in all, the experience is not worth at full price. I can't even say if the experience is w...

This was my first 100% achievement in any Yakuza game. My gametime is what took me to do all of that. Not my first Yakuza game, more like the 9th one, so I have experience in the other games. I never had any technical issues in my entire playthrough (which was also on 2 different PCs.) The story was fun, and the karaoke was awesome. I really liked everything this game had to offer. The combat I thoroughly enjoyed with the 2 styles, but as always I hate getting stopped every 5 seconds to fight randos on the street (and now in the water too.) The ship sailing was alright, ship combat wasn't horrible and didn't suck as much as I thought it would. Whenever I got in a fight in the open seas I just fled cuz after the first 10 fights you get bored of it lmao. I do recommend this game because it actually was really fun and good at keeping your attention. As always, I wish Goro Majima was real so I could go balls out.
