After owning this game for last 2-3 years or so and never giving it a shot, I thought of trying it out this year. So far I have played for about 300+ Hours spanned over 8-9 months. Here's my honest impressions of this game which includes what I liked, disliked, and just absolutely hated. Liked: - The graphics are great for an MMORPG. It stands its time and actually looks great even on a handheld. I played this game on SteamDeck and I was able to get constant 60+ FPS in PvE content on High settings. Now PvP is whole another story which I will mention below. - Story is somewhat interesting compared to most other MMORPGs where they just have the story as a filler but here you actually get to learn an extensive lore of Elder Scrolls. - Fully voice acted story. This is an extremely unique feature. Even Genshin Impact does not have fully voice acted characters at all times for all lines of text but ESO manages to give you A-Rated actors for their stories and all side missions too. Hats off ...

User Reviews
This is no longer the Elder Scrolls Online that I fell in love with and is just a shallow husk of a game that's being systematically ruined by the developers. As someone who has been playing since the launch of this game it really pains me to see the state that the game is currently in and where it is heading. Your time is better off playing a game where the devs actually care about their playerbase. Itemization: There is over 650 unique item sets in the game and only a handful are being used. While there will always be a meta in video games this is less of an instance where a handful of sets just outperform the rest by a little bit and thus make them the meta; this is a case where the other sets have had the numbers lowered to the point where the sets that are meta are the meta because they are the only usable ones. For instance there was a new mythic item added to the game that interacted with a sorcerer ultimate ability that replaces your light and heavy attacks. This mythic item w...
Where to start with eso. Pros. 1. The world is big 2. Every province has a main quest 3. Every province has side quests long & short 4. Lot's to learn blacksmithing alchemy provisioning & so on 5. Antiquities to dig up & sell for gold & for you home 6. Buy homes ( i buy the inn rooms at 3000 gold as it a great way to fast travel for free) 7. You can join a guild 8. Lot's of mats about the world ( Now some mats are a bit more rare to find or get but you could always buy what you need) 9. Lot's of style pages to learn & food & drink Recipes as well 10. You can be a Werewolf or Vampire ( just for fun ) Cons. 1. Inventory is only 200 ( Now you can get eso + for the Craft Bag that lets you have as many mats as you like. What i did when playing on ps4 was get eso + for 1 month and get as much as i could as once your month is up you can take stuff out but not put in. As for now i really don't have a prob with space at all) 2. Some places on the map are locked out & you will need DLC ...
I'm just really tired of giving this team of people a chance after every single intentional disgustingly greedy move they make just to annoy and frustrate their players throughout the years. After a year of quitting the game, i decided to come back and the moment i got logged in, guess what happens? all the reasons why i quit this "garb" i mean game at the first place just got shoved right into my face. - Don't get me wrong i once loved this game. as you can see, i have spent a lot of time on it. - Oh, hey! Welcome back! here's some cool stuff for you since you've been gone for so long! but wait, your subscription is expired? well too bad because now your bank is 200 slots over its limit. wanna take them out? well your bag is also full. and why is that? all because of the billions of trash items in this game that actually each of them have a use of their own but can't keep them unless you are subs and have infinite crafting bag. Next you see yourself trying to pick up items m...
I was going to write a long-winded, vicious novel about the state of the game, the utter incompetence of its "devs", the deteriorating state of its servers, the ridiculous new monetization scheme on top of its original ridiculous monetization scheme, etc. But instead, I'll TL;DR the whole thing: Don't waste your time here. This is the "golden cow" of a soulless corporation, staffed by degenerates - a shameless moneygrab, wearing Tamriel as a skin-suit. My playtime is a reflection of the occasional fun offered over the course of many years, when (and only when) playing with friends - on the off-chance that connectivity can be maintained to their "servers", or if you can manage to avoid the AI bot currently tempbanning users with the precision of a bull in a china shop. Dear Steam user - your time is precious. It is better off spent elsewhere. This game, this company, is beneath you. Vote with your wallet.
I just don't recommend it due to the bad monetization model. I get it. Money needs to be made, but it isn't even comparable to the amount of customization options, mounts, personalities, and so on that you miss out on just from stupid CROWN CRATES. Why would this MMO need so much and return so little...? Sick of big companies acting like piranhas for our wallets. Ridiculous what has become of the world.
Deceptive marketing The "Eso Subscription" does not give you access to the latest dlc the wording of it is deceptive and is clearly against European law i cant support a game that does this shit. "Misleading practices: The UCPD prohibits misleading actions and omissions, which involve providing false information or presenting information in a way that deceives or is likely to deceive the average consumer. This includes misleading advertising, false claims about products or services, and other deceptive tactics."
Awesome game, got into it initially around 2015 on Xbox. Played for about a few years, then got back on with PC 2022 for about 6 months. Just recently got back into it this July and August 2025 and honestly it's gotten ALOT of solid content imo. There's a few things I think that could be overhauled, such as grinding for certain equipment/armor sets, when it's been done repetitively for lets say, a month. Theoretically you're not promised what you want, and that's roughly the amount of time it took me + a couple hours a day and sometimes more for almost a month straight (Pyrebrand set). I think a MASSIVE improvement for the game, is to add a 3rd difficulty to some of these Dungeons/Trials, that if completed or certain particular achievements (speedruns, no-deaths, etc.) are completed, a specific item for a set (not even the trait) is granted to the player. Bare minimum they could Transmute said armor/weapon piece would be a huge improvement, because I'd rather spend my time doing an ...
If you are looking for a laid back, immersive game with tons of content and lots of build options, ESO has it. If you like crafting and character options, ESO has that too. If you like character housing and the ability to build your own furniture and decorations, as well as displaying trophies from your dungeon, raid, and achievement runs, guess what? Another checkmark. ESO isn't flawless, and the are things I'd like to see improved. But the overall gameplay loop is enjoyable for me, and it keeps me coming back, even after all these years. If you like fantasy RPGs and MMORPGS give it a try.
Absolutely amazing as a complete new player. I was put off by people giving this a negative review when they have 2000 hours time played. Yeah, you prob will be out of content by then. As a new player, theres SO MUCH to do! Im having a blast. Recommend if you want to scratch that MMO itch. If you have tried to played it (like i did for a couple of times before it clicked) i would suggest that you follow the quests and ignore EVERYTHING else until you get a feel for the game. It took me 4 tries over a couple of years to finally get that i dont have to dabble in skills or yada yada right away. Start with the quests and just take one thing at a time. Have fun! <3
