About This Game

Shantae is back in a 2D side-scrolling action-adventure game 20 years in the making! The nefarious pirate Risky Boots has a “groundbreaking” new plan that will leave Sequin Land spinning — by rotating the continent, she can move any town right to the coast for easy plundering! As Shantae, turn the tectonic tables on Risky by taking control of the land itself: shift, twist, navigate, and explore by swapping between mix-and-match multilayered levels! Hair-whip and belly-dance your way through scrambled lands, misplaced towns, monster-filled crypts, and daunting labyrinths. Six creature transformations, fierce boss battles, and a 4-player versus mode await!

Key Features:

• Discover the lost chapter of the Shantae saga, fully restored and released after 20 years!
• Fight and explore using your hair-whipping ability, magic items, and belly-dance transformations (including monkey, elephant, crab, and more)!
• Spin and shift Front Yard and Back Yard playfields to create new routes and solve puzzles!
• Visit towns, battle through labyrinths, purchase upgrades, find collectables, and meet with friends like Rottytops, Sky, and Bolo!
• For the first time ever in a Shantae game, four players can compete in Battle Mode! (Controllers required.)

Edit and WARNING: If you don't buy the Deluxe edition, you can't get the Deluxe costumes unless you buy the full Deluxe edition game again for full price! No separate upgrade pack available, don't be fooled by the Deluxe "bundle" listing it for $10. It won't let you buy it separately. Just a heads up! "My dad said you we were half genie and half something... What was it? Oh yeah! Half naked!" It's great, plays like the classic Risky's Revenge. Maybe a bit more 'advanced' than that title though, despite being a game that should've come out BEFORE Risky's Revenge? Maybe they took what they had and did some innovations. Either way, this is the 6th Shantae game so I'm happy. If you like Shantae, this is like the classic games, not the uh.. meh Half Genie Hero gameplay. It's good, although locking the Costumes aka alternate game modes behind the Deluxe edition is kinda scummy to me. Outfits in these games always count as its own save file since they change how she plays. The thing tha...

This title is as average as average can get, it mostly exists as a neat novelty title, a lost GBA game that look 20 years to finish. Except it's also mostly a bunch of reused RR and PC assets, not only that but once in a while you'll notice graphical errors, missing assets and misaligned layers. Game is also broken, my game froze 3 times, 2 out of nowhere and once while talking to a npc, this forced me to reload my save. I would be more generous with it, considering the game was made with the limitations of the GBA, but WayFoward priced it like a modern game.

There is no "Yes, but-" option for steam reviews, so I'll put this here. On release, So far the steam version has had some odd issues. I have so far been unable to adjust the window size with it taking up the entire size of the screen, resorting to me giving up and playing the game in fullscreen on my 2nd monitor. The window size option ingame only seems to adjust how much of the game takes up the window size compared to the border. I've seen reports of slowdown, but experienced none myself. the Costume DLC appears to lock you into a costume at the start of the game with no switching, so only get it if you really want to spend the entire game in one single outfit. Consider the boost to one spell a small bonus.(and if you're just gonna play the original GBA version, you cant use them so just don't bother at all.) There also doesn't seem to be a GBA rom included with the download, which is a shame as being able to legally run it in an emulator would fix some issues, and retroachi...

It's so awesome to see this game finally come to fruition after being cancelled ages ago, and the fact that it's still a GBA game? This is the sorta thing that happens when you have developers who are passionate about their craft. (hopefully someday we get the original GBC Shantae on Steam..!)

I'll say this; the game is for sure fun. If you love the Shantae series then you will for sure love this one. But even as a long time fan myself, I can't deny that this is for sure the weakest entry and by a long shot. It really feels like this was rushed out the door before it was finished. - No new game+ just seems odd. - The collectible squids do literally nothing. Like why were these even added? - It's really short despite being 25$ ($35 with DLC). For reference, here's my play time and achievement % for the other games: Risky's Revenge - 7.2 hours ($10)(34% achievements) Pirate's Curse - 10 hours ($20)(68% achievements) Half-Genie Hero Ultimate Edition - 13.2 hours ($30)(54% achievements) Seven Sirens - 9.6 hours ($30)(65% achievements) Risky's Revolution (with DLC) - 6 hours ($35)(93% achievements) This one has the lowest play time with the highest price, and this is...

It’s fun and charming, basically what you’d expect from a Shantae game. Unfortunately, the game randomly freezes and forces you to restart. Considering it costs 20 Euros (on sale!), I’ve decided to request a refund and might give it another try once this GBA game (!) actually runs smoothly.

Shantae Advance is very unpolished and I regret wasting my time and money on it. - The game crushed at least 4 times on the graveyard stage, so I lost about 50 minutes in total. The game also crushed on the second boss once. - Keyboard controls are hardcoded in all the menus (including the save guy). Also you cannot rebind Q and E for some reason. - Sometimes direction is inverted when you jump from the diving platforms. Sometimes it's not. - No new game+ (unlike the previous games). - The collectable squids are literally useless (unlike the previous games). - You have to beat the same boss in the crypt dungeons 3 times. - The enemies in general are very primitive, but it takes eternity to kill most of them. - The multi-layered locations are lame and annoying. I wasted a lot of time trying to figure out where should I go and what exactly should I do. This is not an exploration, this is ********! - There is no map, which makes navigation through multi-layered stages longer and even mor...

Another to the collection. Heartwarming, beautiful, catchy and brilliant as it is with every Shantae game. Pixelation of the art already adds brilliancy for the game. While on the shorted side of the games this one still will knock socks out of you. The soundtrack too will take a breath away from you.
