About This Game

Daemonologie is a short folk horror story influenced by the Scottish witch trials of the late 1600s. From the developer of Symphony of Seven Souls.

You play the role of a witch finder who has been summoned to the small Scottish village to uproot the witch that resides there. You must speak to the locals and sort their truths from their lies. If they are not willing to communicate then you have permission to employ further methods of persuasion.

At the end of each day you will experience prophetic, stop-motion style nightmares. While cryptic, they may provide you with some hidden truths.

It is recommended to take notes as you go as the game will not hold your hand or lead you in your investigation. The choices you make will be all yours.

Features:

- Hand drawn pixel art.
- Original soundtrack.
- Short interwoven narratives designed for playing in a single sitting, multiple times to get the full picture.
- Nightmarish stop-motion style animations.
- Rebuilt from the ground up and expanded from the 2020 HPS1 Jam original.

Ultra-short but exceptionally atmospheric detective story. Visuals, music, lighting - absolutely stunning. Atmosphere is rather scary and dreams are very disturbing. Both the story and gameplay seem rather simple. There is a witch and you are a witch hunter. Within few days, the witch must be uncovered and executed. The goal seems rather clear. You are talking with the locals, collecting important information, trying to make some conclusions... but at certain moment it becomes evident that just with talking you won't get anywhere. Now you realise that it is time to use another weapon in your arsenal - tortures. Yes, tortures definitely will give you all the answers. Not just the answer you need, but any answers you want. The story, and especially it's ending, initially may seem rather confusing. But after you replay the game few times and the more you think about it - you realise that actually it has sense. While the ending is kinda unexpected, it absolutely fits time and place and I...

Okay after accusing and torturing everyone in the village I finally, FINALLY understand the game's real story. It's not about finding the witch at all, it's about finding the "evidence" that serve the Witch Finder's narrative; a.k.a finding a "witch", execute them, and get paid. A commentary about making sure everything fits your ideal. Dang this is far more interesting than I thought. Kudos!

I'm in absolute awe of this experience. It is short and meaningful. Beautifully crafted and, to my surprise, uses that sweet language of film to create some stunning cutscenes. I cannot recommend this little game enough!!!

More of a story/art experience, but good for what it was. Can be completed in about 30ish minutes, but for $1 or $2 I can't complain.

A short detective game that forces you to question your own role in the investigation. The static art, stop-motion videos, and music are worth the price, alone.

A short but exceptionally crafted detective game where you must uncover which of six unsettling villagers is the witch. Set in a late 17th-century Scottish village, the oppressive art style and eerie atmosphere create a deeply immersive and chilling experience. Each character has secrets to hide, and uncovering the truth sometimes requires a heavy hand. But in the end, one witch must hang.
