About This Game

Star Sonata is a massively multiplayer action based indie role playing space game. Fly your spaceship and team up with and again hundreds of other players while building robot ships, space stations, and colonies to persistently run your empire in your sleep.

Action-based combat and movement

You are in direct control of your ship. Star Sonata is a 3D top down action based game.Use your skill to manually pilot your ship and avoid those laser beams, bullets, and missiles, and line up that perfect shot! Why walk when you can fly?

Build your Empire in a Sandbox style universe

Manage your colonies, build bases, deploy defensive drones, establish trade routes with robot controlled ships. The universe resets every 3-4 months which randomizes the galaxies in player buildable space, creating new conflict where there were once settled borders. You can advance economically by trading between bases, creating your own bases and colonies, killing enemies, collecting Player versus Player (PVP) bounties, or completing one of the 2000 missions. There are thousands of different items that can be obtained or constructed and sold to other players.

Become Emperor of the Universe

You can “win” the game by declaring yourself emperor and fighting for influence with your team in the Anatolian Expanse PvP zone. You can partake in large scale PVP conflicts with hundreds of players, or even little skirmishes on fringe systems.

Progress

Star Sonata includes a wide variety of skills and customization options including eight classes, four trade skills, 127 total skills that give various stat increases that the players can train, over 250 player obtainable ships, the ability to change nearly every aspect of your ship’s build including the engine, weapons, energy, shield, and more! In Star Sonata no two players will play the game the same way and no two players will have the exact same build!

Indie Development Team

We are a small independent development team and we pour our hearts and souls into Star Sonata. It's a labor of love, and we hope you like it as much as we do. One global server, one amazing community - Star Sonata does not separate the community based on region, everyone plays on the same server. Play as long as you like for free, and with no level limit! An optional subscription is required for some content, but most of the game is available without a subscription.

After spending 15 years playing, here I am to tell you what to expect. The game is wonderful. You get into a whole universe teeming with life. You see other players and the fun begins. You level up. You get new ships, skills, and that grin on your face reaches your ears. It is one of the best feelings you will feel in Star Sonata. You form a team together with the ones you met during your journey and one day you'll decide to take a bite out of that vast ownable territory. You build bases, populate planets, extract resources, solve logistics problems, set up defenses and get armed. To the teeth. You prosper. Slowly, the team becomes able to do harder runs, get supreme gear, insanely powerful ships and the process speeds up with every invested month. Diplomatic relations with nearby teams are established, trade routes are created and treaties ensure the development of every team in the neighbourhood. After a long and tiring cooperated run against the deadliest bosses of the game, you li...

Played in the early/mid 2000's and had a blast, especially being part of a team.. theres a learning curve to the game but not horrible if you seek out a good team. Just recently came back and there wasn't a big issue somewhat catching up to others and being able to take part in various group runs, not top tier by any means or where people are that have played longer, but there's fun in seeking out new gear, working on your build, swapping augs, trying different classes.. Game is old but provides plenty of content and things to do that can cater to a large spectrum of gamers.. Give it a try.

I'm a long time player of Star Sonata and the time I have spent playing the game was very fun but sadly with all long running games there is always the long term players that rule the game, they have items/skills/ships that you can no longer get and I understand, they worked hard for them, to take them away would be cruel and make them want to quit. Anyways, this game is what I've always wanted in a space game, it has combat, trade, mining and base building and its all in a simple yet rewarding way, you can even have fleets and such in the forum of slaved AIs, I enjoy everything about this game but I'd love to see a offline version of the game, I think it would sell very well. As it stands now I have stopped playing but when last I did, the game was still very populated, older players are helpful and willing to part knowledge to the newer players unlike some games out there where players are way to competitive. If you are looking for a simple yet involved space game with multiplayer...

Been playing SS for awhile i think its a amazing game. I have been a player since C1 and it was one of my most played game when i was younger. I took a break later on when C2 was announced and eventually got back into it couple of years later. Things changed but i eventually got back into SS. One it was a lot easier to get credits and to level. Two it was really easy to get back into the swing of things. I know SS doesn't feel like the greatest game but once you find that pace it can be a pretty great game. 10/10

This game is a continual state of live-server beta testing of features that the dev team seems unable to agree about. Everything is in continual flux, and currently, most of the game is horribly broken and unbalanced. The dev team does not care to accept any real criticism of their flawed approach, and will instead supress negative feedback. They care more about preserving their bubble of positivity than actually stamping out rampant racism in the game discord chats. Not worth your time. Avoid at all costs.

There's currently a massive rework of the entire game in progress. This rework will render the game absolutely unfun to play and the devs are resisting any and all critiques about the rework from its playerbase. The owner of the game forces whatever he wants into the game without any QA or supervision. Any investments into your characters are being dashed as over 40% of all items in the game are being changed to suit the owner's vision.
