Faery - Legends of Avalon

This game needs to be updated. It used to work, but now it won't open.

Within Steam's binary positive/negative review system, I often leave negative ones. Sometimes, when a game is pretty cool but let down by some fundamental flaws which nudge it below the line, I wonder if I'm really being fair. This is not one of those times, and Faery: Legends of Avalon is not one of those games. Faery: Legends of Avalon is just bad. It's a kind of bad-ness that has little to do with its small scope or its lack of budget. I enjoy small scale, simple RPGs with unique settings. Unfortunately, this is the kind of game that has about 5 cool ideas and about 50 execution blunders that range from underwhelming to awful. You shouldn't buy this, not even for cheap. Let's start by saying I kinda enjoyed chilling with this game, but I have to be honest and the game isn't good. First of all, you'll likely need an unofficial patch to even run the game, Combat is very simple and basic, to the point you'll quickly find a single cycle of abilities that you'll use against any enemy, the game is not hard either. Writing is shallow and at times it feels quite randome: you'll explore different worlds that sare very similar, long quest chains that will go like this: "to save this place we need to do x", x doesn't work... "well to save this place we might need to do y", y doesn't work... "well actually we need to do z", z works. The segment in the quest chains feel disconnected at times, and mostly feels like just padding. Characters are one dimensional and forgettable, story is also quite predictable and shallow, and abruptly ends with no final boss.
