About This Game

Experience PS generation, low-polygon, 3D stealth action updated with modern effects such as lighting and shadows, randomly generated levels, modern equipment, and head-to-head local multiplayer.

An eco-terrorist organisation is threatening to plunge the world into digital darkness, wiping out all digital records and sending the world back to the stone age. As a member of the counter terrorist Spy Drops team you are tasked with neutralizing the threat, but soon begin to question the mission objectives and uncover a deeper conspiracy.

Dropped behind enemy lines, your covert ops are to infiltrate infrastructure and undertake secret ops that includes gathering intel, installing spy devices and rescuing prisoners.

Mission layouts are randomly generated producing a tense gameplay experience as you never know what is around the next corner. Everyone's game will be different.

Explore enemy bases room-by-room, choosing how to tackle each one. You can dodge, hack or shot cameras, knock out or kill guards, stick to the mission objective or explore further. Scout the area first with a drone, hide in lockers, or even use sponge boots to move around quieter. Stealth is always rewarded and you will earn more experience for not killing and remaining undetected.

You select what equipment to take on each mission, choosing from a range of items and weapons such as drones, hacking devices, night vision googles, sniper rifles, taser guns, mine detectors and many more. New equipment is researched and added as the game progresses.

Accumulate Target Points by extracting intel from unconscious guards using the Dream Catcher. You cannot extract any intel from dead bodies so always avoid killing when possible.

Gain experience to level up your stats including health, stamina, aiming accuracy and luck.

This game is extremely rough in its current state, and $15 is quite a bit to ask for a game that feels like it hasn't left alpha. Elephant in the room: The game uses AI voices, that's what everyone's going on about. It was with the full consent of the voice actors, there's no ethical problems here. Not to mention VA's tend to treat indies like dirt anyway, so I wouldn't blame the dev if they used full-on AI constructed voices. I DOES sound very bad though, and is hard to listen to. Which you'll have to do a lot. You can mute the voices but this is not an ideal solution for various reasons. It probably would've been wise to go with mostly text boxes for this one. The biggest problem by far is the basic game feel. Every core action feels like it barely functions. Frankly I don't they do sometimes. If the core mechanics were refined and the character felt good to control, the rest of the game's jank would be more than tolerable. The camera is also an issue. Despite the obvious MGS1 ins...

This is one of those moments where I wish Steam had a yellow Maybe button. I don't want to necessarily say that this is an outright bad game, because as someone who grew up with Metal Gear Solid, I see where the developers were trying to do with this game, I see the potential it has, but in that same breath, this game just isn't a finished product and because of that, I can't recommend the game either. People are criticizing the game too for the use of AI voices, and while I don't necessarily approve of that practice, I feel that's at most inconsequential compared to everything else. The controls are very counter-intuitive and confusing and the gameplay is very simple and lacking a lot of features and polish that even the original MGS1 back in 1998 had. The guard AI is very dumb for starters as there's zero incentive to run away when you get caught or even play stealthily. Hell, they don't even have any peripheral vision in this game, which is something that Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake,...

[b]Updated 30/08/25[/b] AI voices: [strike]I don’t really care. Developers stated that the service paid the actors used to generate these voices. But oh man—they’re bad. All the characters feel lifeless (and I’ve heard bad voice acting even from humans, so this issue isn’t specific to AI voices). Imagine someone just reading a script aloud without any emotion or expression. I got some chat with Gemini and Copilot who were way more natural.[/strike] No more mains AI voices. Not stellar (heh, limited budget, I totally understand), but way better. The controls are so clunky. Sometimes they don’t make sense at all, and even after three hours of playing, I still can’t navigate them smoothly without pausing to check my finger placement on the buttons. Animations are so stiff, [strike] even when running in a straight line, it's never natural.[/strike] Better, not perfect, but better. Music, err, repetitive. The same five or ten seconds loop over and over. Graphics Are… ...

Spy Drops is a MGS 1 inspired game with some ideas of it's own. In my opinion, despite it's flaws it's still a good game and worth to play if you are a fan of stealth-action games.(I recommend using a controller instead of keyboard and mouse) -You have some main missions with "fixed" level design.(And bossfights) -You have AI generated missions with different types of missions and difficulties.(Destroying tanks by bombs, rescuing prisoners, hacking minds , collecting documents, controlling a drone in the whole mission) And one good thing about the missions is that it has good variety(Timed missions, night time missions etc) and you can choose to play the missions that you enjoy more. Or, if you prefer easier difficulties you can play the easy missions. -In terms of mechanics, it's a MGS 1 style stealth game with some extra features. One thing I like about it the amount of different items that you can use in a mission.(You can fly drones, you can hack security cameras, you can wear en...

If you grew up playing metal gear solid. This is a fantastic spiritual successor to the jank that were the old games. Honestly though the controls are thankfully more put together than Konami's HD collection. Feels nice to revisit an era of video games that was awkward growing pains. It be nice to see if the devs do make more quality of life features and smooth out some of its rough edges, because the gameplay loopp is a good ode to time that were the era of early playstation, thankfully however, it plays better too. Also, you can dive into an enemy and knock them out. Just like solid snake does too!
