About This Game

Please note as of October 2024, the online features for this game will no longer be supported.

Call of Juarez is an epic adventure western themed FPS game. The player alternately assumes the roles of two distinct, antagonistic characters: a sneaking fugitive Billy and his hunter the reverend Ray. Apart from the highly interesting, emotional and psychological aspect of the link between the two characters, the player will experience a variety of gameplay with many differences whilst playing a particular character.

The game features fast paced revolver duels using historically accurate firearms, horseback riding, mounted combat and stealth actions in memorable locations set after Western movies. Emergent gameplay based on accurate simulation of not only rigid bodies and rag-dolls but also liquids, gases, fire and smoke makes the gameplay innovative and non-linear.

  • Very serious approach to the Wild West theme and detailed reconstruction of the character and visuals of that times

  • The use of physics and innovative simulation of fire, liquids, dust, smokes and gases to construct emergent gameplay

  • State of the art graphics making use of the top technology graphics cards features on todays cards

  • Playing 2 distinct characters with different abilities and different gameplay

  • Horseback riding and saddle shooting, gunfighter duels

  • Using the whip to fight, move objects and move the player's character

  • Legendary weapons form the Gold Fever era and full akimbo mode for the hands on approach

  • Exhilarating storyline with full of twists and turns in this exciting Western Genre.

The controls are rough, the gameplay clumsy, the technology outdated, and the visuals old-fashioned. It lacks polish. Yet none of that truly matters. What matters most is its personality. The direction, charged with adrenaline and brushed with a trace of poetic charm, turns the experience into something deeply immersive.

Call of Juarez 1 is to western video games what Kenny G is to the genre of jazz, great in some parts, run of the mill in others, and drags on when it should have been over. If you want a 6 hour jank fest on an engine that's old enough to get a learner's permit go ahead. Shotgun makes the banditos go whee

There's something raw about this game that's missing in modern gaming. I can't put my finger on it, but damn do I love it.

Solid game for 2006 with fun gameplay, the only problem is that it's a bit buggy on DX10 and very unfair on Hard difficulty

Plays okay and looks good for it's time. Story is interesting with the two different characters with two different styles of levels. Unfortunately it's very buggy, crashed a few times in just a couple hours and then I hit a boss I couldn't draw my gun against, leaving me stuck there.

Whilst the game is fun. It does suffer from a lot of the tropes of 2000s shooters. Things like forced stealth sections, turret sections, and enemies being able to shoot through line of sight blocking particle effects and scenery. The story is fun, if a little predictable at times. The weapons feel weighty, but lack feedback. You can check out my playthrough here https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLlTZZfL5AQ8ruB9jp97qZx5J62hkAJ97m

If you have troubles drawing your pistol during the duels, try flicking your mouse really hard or increase your DPI
