Love the idea of an indigenous, home-grown game featuring a vulnerable language, and the end product is a great effort for what is a first release for most (if not all) of the devs. The game is polished in some ways you wouldn't expect it to be, and unpolished in some ways you would. The animations are extremely well-done; none of the clunkyness you would expect from an indie game like this. The graphics and open world are also quite beautiful (if sometimes confusing); the style, cultural orientation, and general gameplay remind me a lot of Okami, which is one of my favourite games of all time. That said, beautiful as the graphics are, the fact that the graphics options and key bindings are completely locked leaves a lot to be desired, to say the least. 30FPS is not an acceptable framerate cap for a game in 2025; even consoles run 120FPS nowadays. The graphics are nowhere near resource-intensive enough to require this lock, and building a PC game for consistent experience across di...

About the Game

Kun’tewiktuk: A Mi’kmaw Adventure is a fantasy adventure game inspired by Mi’kmaw legend and folklore. It takes place in Unama'ki ("Land of the Fog"), which is known today as Cape Breton Island, Canada. It chronicles the adventures of two young siblings Wasuek ("Flower") and her brother U'n ("Fog"). The siblings get separated one summer morning and they go on an adventure through the spirit world to reunite.
Our game's genre is best described as a fantasy adventure. It’s played in third-person perspective, and the player has access to a menu system that allows them to assign and switch weapons and abilities as they become available through the gameplay. The gameplay will sometimes weave back into the natural world, depending on the objective.
Our young adventurers will be granted special abilities as they progress through the game. These special abilities are drawn from nature and become available through the completion of assignments and quests.
Kun'tewiktuk (pr. "gon-dew-ik-duk") is the Mi'kmaw word for "the place of the rock".
The Mi'kmaq (pr. "meeg-ah-mah") are indigenous peoples who are among the original inhabitants in the Atlantic Provinces of Canada. Oral history and archeological evidence place the Mi’kmaq in the region for more than 10,000 years.
The gameplay alternates between our two young heroes as the story progresses from one assignment to the next. As the story begins, Wasuek is working her way to U’n. U’n eventually escapes his captor and begins working his way home, pursued by the spirit-eating creature. They continue working their way toward each other with the goal of reuniting and making their way back home.

Wasuek
Pronounced "wuz-a-wek", it means "flower" in Mi'kmaw. Wasuek is brave, intelligent, and determined. She cares for her family, community, and her brother, and is fiercely protective of them. When she puts her mind to something, get out of her way!
U'n
Pronounced "oon", it means "fog" in Mi'kmaw. U'n is brave and adventurous like his sister, and can sometimes wander off in exploration without thinking of the consequences. He's strong, energetic, and never turns down a challenge!

Encounter a variety of characters from Mi'kmaw legend, including the Great Chief Kluskap, who will guide you on your journey... if you are worthy.
The game will also feature a series of mini-games, testing the player’s skills in puzzles, memory, and dexterity.

The game's villains and adversaries are inspired by Mi'kmaw legend and folklore. They include ogres, ice creatures, giant spirit animals, and much more.
The game offers players a range of gameplay experiences, including both traditional weapons as well as magical abilities. It also offers different environments, landscapes, and gameplay as both of our young heroes.

Players will face boss-level adversaries throughout the game.
