Home: Mother is like a broken-in, and broken-down, couch. It’s really comfy, but eventually you notice the loose springs trying to create new holes in your skin. The strongest parts of this game are the environments and the atmosphere. The backgrounds are quite pretty, in an abandoned and decayed kind of way. The screen with a cat and dog on a balcony, overlooking a landscape (seen in the thumbnail below), have the quality of a Rusty Lake game, if not even better. The game also built up a great sense of atmosphere through detailed descriptions and the inner monologue of the main character. However, the writing is severely harmed by the localization. Not just the word choice, but also the grammar and syntax is pretty bad. Given that at least the first part of the game is nothing but reading, this makes for rough going. Match that with a transparent story and a cliched, amnesiac character, and the writing won't be shaking anyone's world. I probably played two-thirds of the game, and...
