FREE CONTENT UPDATE!

Jingle Cells

Following on from last year’s release of the free Santa’s Sweatshop content, our daring escapee elf unfortunately lost control of their sleigh mid-flight and was forced to make an emergency landing – right in the middle of the grounds of the Jingle Cells prison!

Stuck doing hard time again, if you want to get home in time for the holidays you’ll need to sneak around the brand new wintery themed prison sourcing the unique items and crafting supplies that you’ll need to repair the sleigh and make another break for it!

The Jingle Cells update features:

  • New festive themed prison to escape
  • 20 new items and craftables
  • New leaderboard to make your mark on

About the Game

You’ve landed yourself in prison again, and your only chance is to engineer an escape by any means necessary. How you do it is up to you! Why not cause a prison riot? Or dig a tunnel right under the walls of the prison? Or even steal a guard uniform to blend in with your captors?

The Escapists is a unique prison sandbox experience with lots of items to craft and combine in your daring quest for freedom. Life in prison will keep you on your toes with the strict rules that you’ll have to break. The guards are out to stop any escape attempts, so you’ll have to avoid suspicious behaviour by attending roll calls, working a prison job and hiding your stolen craftables.

Escaping is what you do best, and you’ll have to prove your skills in a variety of challenging prisons from across the world.

The Escapists is a captivating indie title that cleverly combines simulation, strategy, and stealth to deliver a unique prison break experience. Developed by Mouldy Toof Studios, the game offers a refreshing twist on the escape genre by placing players in the role of a prisoner determined to break free from a variety of increasingly complex penitentiaries. Its blend of daily routines, crafting mechanics, and stealth-based gameplay creates an engrossing and challenging environment that keeps players strategizing and adapting throughout each prison stint. At the heart of The Escapists is the intricate balance between blending in and planning a daring escape. Players must adhere to strict prison schedules, attending roll calls, work shifts, meals, and exercise times while simultaneously gathering resources and crafting tools essential for their breakout plans. This duality of routine and rebellion adds depth to the gameplay, requiring players to manage time effectively and make calculate...

I LOVED this game! And I've only played the main prisons, and apparently the DLC ones are even better. But overall it's a clever puzzle game that feels rewarding to solve. My ONLY objection is that *some* of the crafting is a little bit confusing, and you won't get every craft recipe in your journal. For example, how was I supposed to know that a plastic fork wouldn't work for molten plastic but a toothbrush would? I'd also say the final prison (HMP Irongate) is a little bit annoying with its stun rod gimmick, but other than that the levels are all fun. My personal favorites are Jungle Compound and San Pancho. Would recomment this game!

A game built on waiting. All progress is locked behind RNG items showing up in prisoners' cells. Alternatively, the player can also depend on the RNG necessary pickups appearing in random prisoners' shops with limited, random item pools. All progress is locked behind these items as punitive screens and losses in progress are automatically inflicted on the player if they do specific things (exist for 60 seconds after skipping roll call, have a vent uncovered for longer than a few seconds, exist for a second or two after taking a key from a guard). Therefore, the player is pigeon-holed into time-consuming crafting or recruiting mechanics that are based on the RNG item pools generated every day. There are other unnecessary, unfun mechanics like constantly degrading stats, constantly degrading relationships with other prisoners, crafting locked behind repetitive clicking minigames, and a job system that only gives you enough money to buy 2-3 items per day. However, the core of th...
