About This Game

It is the year 198X. Big hair is hot, and the war with the Soviets is colder than a refreshing glass of New Coke. RAD RAYGUN must travel the world fighting communist robots, and save the 1980′s by shooting his way through the decade in a totally fresh, expanded version of the original XBLIG game.

SUPER RAD RAYGUN pits Rad against a whole new wave of deadly enemies and locations – from the Communist strongholds of the Far East to strategically insignificant islands off the South American coast. But chill out, because Rad has gnarly new weapons, upgrades, and a revamped gameplay engine to help him out.

Ultra sharp 144p resolution graphics and 4 unique shades of monochrome off-green bring Rad Raygun to life, as only 80′s mobile technology can.

Coming November 2016 for PC, Mac, and Linux.

I really want to like this more and am on the fence between recommend and not recommend - I finished a complete playthrough of SRR getting all batteries. It's a brilliant premise and foundation with some flawed balance issues and in the later levels seemingly lazy execution. I was in love with it for the first half and felt a bit underwhelmed by the end. Overall I would highly recommend the game if it can address some of those issues, which seem manageable in updates. PROS: -Smart battery system, a limiting mechanic heartwarmingly motivated by multiple sclerosis as said in the credits -Feels like games you love - wonderful setting. -First retro game since Shovel Knight that I've genuinely loved. -Music (FantomenK is an awesome artist and delivers a fantastic soundtrack) -Humor is spot on and the plot is even historically relevant / educational -Dialogue is phenomenal -Great aesthetics (references galore, Gameboy colors, vision dimming, 80s pop-culture references) -Difficulty of first ...

Do you like amazing, superb, and brilliantly written action platformers? Then this is the game you've been dreaming of. Super Rad Raygun combines all the awesomeness of the 8-bit era and 80's esque humor into one amazing package. The game plays similar in style to Mega Man where you can switch between power ups on the fly, but Super Rad Raygun does one better and allows you to power up your different abilities in whatever order you see fit adding a truly unique element to the gameplay. The icing on the cake is the extremely clever writing that pokes fun at many current and past events in history, it's sure to keep you laughing throughout your playthrough. This is one game that everyone who's a fan of retro, 8-bit styled games should play. And even better, it won't make you cry like an anime fan on prom night!

What a pleasant Gameboy Graphics surprise. You only need two buttons, jump and shoot and its on. Super cheap at the moment on sale for 99 cents. Definitely worth a look for retro arcade platformer fans. I will play this game some more. https://youtu.be/pB9zQCa9Dls USA USA USA USA :D

(NB: Most of my playtime was logged on my boyfriend's account.) Well colour me tickled pink! (or... chartreuse?) It's Mega Man as a GameBoy, with innovative new mechanics and homages to the 80s at every turn... what's not to like? I haven't gleaned this much satisfaction from platforming in a while -- the design exceeds triple-A NES standards -- and the added mechanics are not just for show. You will need to think about how you use the battery upgrades, although one can kind of break it by, say, getting too many protective case upgrades early on, prematurely eliminating the danger from water/shock/lava hazards. That just comes with the territory, however. There are some scrolling issues in the flying stages, and Rad glitched out of the playable area on me a couple times -- but that, again, comes with the territory. Kudos to you, TruFun. You thought of just about everything to make it feel like you're playing this on the ol' gray brick, and I *will* be playing through this again one ...

This game is great! I found the gameplay to be simple, yet surprisingly inventive with its battery mechanic. The music was memorable, catchy, and really fit the game’s graphical style. I even found myself enjoying the story. Its satirical take on 1980’s politics was quite entertaining and sometimes even hysterical. The dialogue/script was also quite superb, and really helped the humor hit the mark. My only complaint is that the game was a bit too easy, the ability upgrades really do pack a punch! All in all, this game really exceeded my expectations. I’m definitely going to be keeping an eye on this developer in the future!

I am typically not one for writing reviews. However, this game is an obvious labor of love and deserves a few shiny words. While I haven’t finished it yet, there isn't anything I could imagine happening along that path that could change how I feel about the game. This is foremost a fun and funny game. Its heavy handed references to the Gameboy and the decade that spawned it have more than once startled the dog with my literal lol-ing. But it's not straight old school here; the feel is a great mix between more modern hyper-precise indie platformer controls and teeth-grinding Gameboy slop. The highlight of this games mechanic is no doubt the power-up system which lets you (or forces you to) prepare to tread slowly into battle with heavy artillery or dodge past the enemy with well-timed acrobatic maneuvers. So if you lived in the 80’s or just wish you did. Or if you owned a Gameboy or just wish you did, then you can’t go wrong with Rad Raygun!
