About This Game

No One Survives Alone.

The 2002 third-person survival horror shooter that serves as a sequel to the genre-defining 1982 film is back, remastered by Nightdive Studios to bring this innovative blend of fast paced squad action meets survival horror to the modern era. Including Antialiasing, Per Pixel Lighting, 4K Resolution and up to 144 FPS.

Where the movie ended, the true terror begins.

You are Cpt J.F. Blake, leader of a U.S. Special Forces rescue team sent to investigate the blood-curdling events and enigmatic deaths of the American scientific team that transpired at the Outpost 31 research facility located in the frozen wastelands of Antarctica. Within these inhospitable surroundings your team encounters a strange shape-shifting alien life-form that assumes the appearance of people that it kills. Trapped by the elements and infected by this horrific entity, using all your team members is critical if you hope to accomplish your objectives, let alone survive. If you only knew which ones were still human…

Never played the original so can't say anything about the "quality of the Remaster". As "new game" it is not bad, but nothing outstanding or anything like that. Very simple and linear game, with okay atmosphere and music. Also not a very long game. At least no technical issues. I recommend it, but full price is too much. Minus 50% something like that and it is an okay deal.

Game's like in 90s. Not sure what is "remastered". Definitely not a 20+ EUR game.

I really enjoyed the movie The Thing, but I didn’t like the game as much. I think I’ve been spoiled by great games like Prey (2017) and Alien: Isolation (2014), so this one just felt like a generic “shooter vs x-faction.” One unique feature the game does have going for it is the “Trust System,” where fellow survivors won’t cooperate with you unless you gain their trust—usually by arming them to the teeth. But because weapons and ammunition are so abundant, nearly every NPC instantly became best friends with me the moment I found them. When I saw the “Survival Horror” tag on the Steam page, I got my hopes up. Having played Resident Evil (especially RE0, RE1 and RE2—not the remakes), I expected a similar atmosphere. Unfortunately, the game showers you with resources, so I never had to make meaningful decisions about how to approach the next encounter. With so much ammo, so many weapons and med-kits, and a machine gun that mows down everything in its path, t...

Such a classic from that era. Simple gameplay, simple story, simple execution, terrifying monster. Gotta love it.

Unfortunately, I found this game to be quite boring. Not only is it not the least bit scary (maybe it was when it came out, but not these days), but the action was completely lackluster. The AI is dumb, like headless chickens dumb, and the squad kept getting stuck on the most basic obstacles and doors. The story was a joke. I don't see how it's a direct sequel to the movie
(don't remember the secret military base from the movie or all the buildings and cranes around the big UFO)
. I'm not saying the remaster didn't improve things since I never played the original, but I can't recommend this unless it's at a deep discount and you REALLY loved the movie or have nothing better to play.

Better than I remember. This is an incredible remaster with great graphics and lighting. Nightdive added a lot of quality of life enhancements as well. A lot of games from the PS2 era suffer from poor controls and bad camera work, but all of that has been corrected. The only issues left are those which were present in the original game which suffers from a bit of repetition. A phenomenal first half followed by a slightly less interesting back half, though it never becomes bad and is a pretty solid effort throughout- 8/10
