Set in a fictitious continent reminiscent of the 1930s, Valkyria Chronicles depicts Europa, divided and ruled by two super powers: the Empire and the Federation. The Empire has set its sights on invading the principality Gallia, which shares its borders with the two superpowers, in an attempt to secure an invaluable natural resource, Ragnite. Within this struggle a hero named Welkin, and his fellow soldiers of the Gallian Militia, ‘Squad 7’ are fighting back against the invasion and the Empire’s attempts to unify the continent under its power.

During the ensuing war, Squad 7 discovers that the Empire possesses a secret weapon, known as the “Valkyrur” – an ancient race with special powers thought to exist only in legends. With this new discovery, the fate of Gallia’s ability to defeat the Empire and save the lives of the Gallian citizens…

I played a demo for this game on the PS3 about 10 years ago and it stuck with me so much I finally played it in 2025, and it holds up. The strategy game play is great, the story is solid enough, and the visuals are at least good enough I think. Definitely worth it

Such and underrated game and series. Don't let it's anime-themed characters turn you off. This is a very addictive strategy, turn-based tactical shooting game that rewards your planning and thinking 3 turns ahead (like chess). Easy to pickup and play with many different ways of approaching missions.

Valkyria Chronicles™, developed and published by SEGA, is a tactical role-playing game that stands as one of the most innovative and emotionally impactful titles in its genre. Originally released for the PlayStation 3 in 2008 and later brought to PC via Steam, the game combines turn-based strategy, third-person action, and a gripping wartime narrative, all wrapped in a visually stunning watercolor aesthetic known as the “CANVAS” engine. Its blend of storytelling, character development, and layered tactical gameplay makes it a standout experience that continues to resonate with fans more than a decade after its debut. Set in the fictional continent of Europa, the game draws heavy inspiration from early 20th-century Europe, particularly the events of World War II. The story centers on Gallia, a small, neutral country caught in the crossfire between two great powers—the East Europan Imperial Alliance and the Atlantic Federation. Players follow Welkin Gunther, a young lieutenant a...

Yet another cringeworthy Japanese game. Childish aesthetics and sound effects and a cringeworthy story with cringeworthy dialogue. This is a game about war but it feels about as violent as an episode of teletubbies. Is this actually a children's game? I may as well have been firing gumdrops from a candy cane. Fighting in a war and there's not even a drop of blood anywhere. And why is the friendly military commander a 13 year old girl in civilian's clothing who gives more orders to civilians than to soldiers? And why do enemies shoot at me during my turn in a turn based game? Nonsense. And the story is just yet another boring tale of underdogma as the little country fights the big bad empire. Lame and cliche story. Hated it. Wouldn't recommend this game to anyone over the age of 8

A decent game overall, but calling this one a strategy is crossing the line. Why? Because for some weird reason the only thing that matters in terms of scoring the mission is the number of turns you took to finish. Missions are incredibly linear, with a single "correct" approach and solution, that incetivises bum-rushing the objective while utilising maybe a third of your actual deployed troops. Feels like you're deepriving yourself of content.

I really enjoyed the story, characters, and gameplay. I never felt there were any issues with balance like a lot of what the people say. But it has some issues that I believe all RTSs share. Random crap that screws you over, some extremely frustrating levels, and a grindy leveling process.

Best TRPG I've ever played. You'll have a blast with the amount of control and planning the game offers you as long as you don't give a damn about the rank system. The visuals are a delight to look at and the story it tries to tell is pretty solid (i personally love it but critically it has it's issues). Its musical score is also a treat to the ears, it fits the atmosphere perfectly and some of the special songs like the one Rosie sings (JP version of it is so good!!!) made me cry irl. It's apparent people who made this game put all their love into making this game. It was 100% worth my money and my time (i have around 35~40 hours even though it only shows 5).
