Lots of cheap hits and all the achievements are beat the game without dying or with lots of lives left. It was fun for the most part but after the water level it gets incredibly cheap and has instant death things all around and enemies that attack you from off screen. A lot of things have 0 indication that it will 1 shot you. The jetpack works weird and the level with the jump king jumps was annoying. Not for me sadly.

What a game. A modern metroid-like except its linear and stage based, very tight mechanics and a pretty innovative direction lock mechanic [Once you start shooting left or right or up, the frog will continue shooting in that direction while you can move around the screen whichever way]. Kind of light on story exposition, or perhaps you are meant to fill in the gaps yourself. Theres a fair amount of dialogue in it for a linear platformer shmup and i found nearly all of it charmingly irreverent, i assume the english translation did a good job of preserving its japanese writing. There is also basically a whole 'nother game hiding behind the NG+ and then the NG++ after that with variant stages and a tonne of secrets, more story and dialogue, alt endings etc. Itll start getting quite difficult in these modes though. Solid recommend this one for the price, and it even goes on sale all the time too so its a no brainer.
