Do not buy this game! The launcher is still broken even after 10 years! Some fixes work for some people, for others nothing works. I am one of the unfortunate where everything I try never works. After starting the game from the launcher, nothing, no error code or anything. Trust me I've tried everything, DEP, reinstalling, verifying files, driver updates, launching in windowed and fullscreen, adjusting resolution, shadows, anti aliasing, etc. I can only play this on my steam deck which is very disappointing. Every single Final Fantasy port for the PC is trash by the way. Way better off playing on console even without the freedoms PC provides

Considering how much of a pain it is to make work on PC, I can't recommend it. Overall the game isn't bad and its worth a playthrough, just not this version of the game. FF13 remaster with a proper port on PC one day hopefully.

This game screams 2009 in the worst possible ways. I'll admit, despite being a huge Final Fantasy fan, growing up with the series in the 90s I dropped off with the release of 11. I tried 12 when it came out, and couldn't get into it. I never got a PS3, opting to turn towards the PC route since that time. I have no frame of reference on how bad or good this port is. All I can say is I had absolutely zero issues running this game, so this review is only taking into consideration the game itself. This just doesn't feel like a Final Fantasy. The linear nature of the game is just so boring, and the one section that does let you roam around a bit feels like MMO fetch quests. The characters don't really grab me at all and the story is so ridiculously convoluted. Also, it's so dang light-hearted despite all of your characters basically living with a curse. The mood of this game just doesn't work for me. Lighting is basically female Squall, but more vanilla and way less depth. She looks l...

Final Fantasy XIII is a tough game to recommend. It's not without positives by any means, but every comment, and to be fair that's positive or negative, I feel needs to be delivered with a caveat to explain why it may or may not work for you. I spent the majority of my time with it unsure if I was enjoying myself. It just sort of glides on by at its own pace and takes you along with it. It is incredibly rigid with its first 20 hours both in how linear and restrictive it is in every way. The characters that make up your party, the level design, the training wheels, you have no real control over these until that 20 hour mark when the game dramatically opens up and becomes a distinctly better game almost instantly. Even this latter half freedom that the game unleashes on you can be frustrating though, with a world design that is seemingly so vast as to be overwhelming and the ability to rely on specific characters making your battles begin to feel quite routine. The Paradigm system in ...

The game is a Xenogears game with a Final Fantasy title to make sales. Don't believe me? Have giant robots CHECK Religious zealots for the government CHECK *SPOILERS* Some over convoluted story that *SPOILERS* require you to kill all of humanity to revive god *SPOILERS* CHECK And to top it off the combat is engaging, it's a Xeno game.

Not just a trashy Final Fantasy, but a trashy game; there was a time in high school when I had diarrhea and had to spend 5 solid hours sitting in my chair suffering in silence and despair and, even in that awful situation, at the end (in my house!) I felt happiness and pleasure; this game feels like an eternal diarrhea like you've gone to another reality where God himself just deleted your butthole, and you'll be stuck forever with this terrible feeling in your body, mind and soul. Story? Trash; Gameplay? Trash; Characters? Trash (Vanille and Sazh are kind cool though!); Music? Very good. Don't waste your time playing this thing like I did! :(

The difficulty ramp up with the Shiva Sisters is crazy. Everything prior was a walk in the park.

Plenty of questionable design choices, yet they all still work — and work surprisingly well. The linear world design fits perfectly, as does the skill tree combined with the hybrid combat system. Even the huge, empty open world in Chapter 11 has its own charm.
