Story

Step into a tale of parallel universes...

Iris was born in World DE-1, a world that mirrors Earth in the 2000s. With her birth, a series of tragic loops was set in motion, which were gradually unraveled by the efforts of Arata Mizunashi and his team.

With her goodwill restored, Iris created a copy of World DE-1 named World DE-1.5. Here, feuds gave way to friendship, each person a perfect cog in a perfect world. But a new crisis threatens the peace...

A mysterious man has entered the fray, and he leads a group of people who look identical to the world's former heroes. Our new hero, Sayaka Hiwatari, confronts the rising chaos, where friends and foes seem impossible to distinguish.

And so the battle with another world enters a new phase...

Key Features

No Strain No Gain - Delve deep into the deadly dungeons of the Strain Area, filled with randomly-generated monsters, traps, and more. Think carefully about your actions, because when you move, your enemies will get to take their turn as well. Explore every corner of a dungeon to find useful items, and try to make your way further and further down.

Blink and You're Dead - Every move you make may spell certain death in the form of dozens of violent Death Ends. You may even trigger a brutal Double Death End, featuring gruesome art by Kei Nanameda and overseen by the diabolically twisted Makoto Kodouin.

You Keep on Walking and You Don't Look Back - Your biggest challenge awaits at the bottom of each dungeon. Get ready to test your limits as you must fight a powerful boss. Once the boss is defeated, it's time to save your friend and try to make it out of the Strain Area alive, your new companion in tow.

Bring it Around Town! - Between trips to the Strain Area, make sure to take a break at home where you can stock up on invaluable items, head to the Night Owl Café to enhance your weapons, or check in on friends around town.

It's another Baby's First Mystery Dungeon game, and it's probably recycling the Omega Labyrinth Life engine with a Death end re;Quest skin-- fine by me. I haven't run into any of the infamous bugs this game is reported to have on other platforms, so I hope that means Idea Factory and Compile Heart resolved those issues for the PC release. This is an easy 7/10 for Mystery Dungeon fans, and probably a 8/10 for series fans who are just in it for the story if the last 2 games are any indication, I'm only 2 chapters in as of this writing.

There's a funny story about this game, because I found it on a Neptunia's Japanese threads. The first thing that I see is the games main character: Sayaka, which I found to be beautiful and had a very cool apparels. Believe me when I'm saying that I got a soft spot on anime character that was dummy thicc (but beautiful). Talking about Sayaka, I heard that this game was a bit of a downgrade from the previous two installments and some of the story still using the same assets. It has a roguelike gameplay and with the dungeon were simplified, all character on gameplay were made to be chibi and were made with grid, so each step would show the enemy next move base by your movements. So yeah, it's somehow a big downgrade. However, I had a bigger soft spot when I found out that this game scriptwritter is the same one who made Corpse Party (Makoto Kedouin). And since this game were rated CERO: Z in Japan, disturbing images of deaths is expected in this game (that explains a lot on the games t...
Notice: Compile Heart had effectively no involvement with the game. This review was originally written with it in mind that the devs were CH/IF. All development was done by Now Production. IFI you should probably add them to the developer section on the Store Page.
Death end re;Quest: Code Z is a striking departure from the original 2 games which were more traditional 3D 3rd Person RPGs with it now taking the gameplay formula from Sei Madou Monogatari, which is a Mystery Dungeon Roguelike game.
Gameplay
While these 2 games are extremely similar to each other (both being CH/IF games) the notable distinction with DERQZ is that the whole "Rougelike" mechanic can be completely avoided. At the start of DERQZ you're given these options, [olist] [*]Normal Where you keep all your items and money upon death. [*]Elite Where you lose all items and money upon death. [*]Expert Where you lose all items, mon...

ehho ehho ┌( □ v □ )┐ on my way to replay this 25 floor dungeon for the FOURTH GOD DAMN TIME WITH EACH RUN TAKING OVER 30-60 MINUTES BECAUSE YOU CAN'T MANUAL SAVE BEFORE A DEATH END LIKE THE PREVIOUS GAMES TO SEE THEM AAAAAAAA MAKE IT STOP NOT TO MENTION YOU HAVE TO DIE 3 (THREE!!!!) TIMES TO EVERY SINGLE ENEMY MOB IN THE GAME TO GET ALL THE BAD ENDS WITH THE LAST REQUIREMENT NEEDING YOU TO BE AT 0 SANITY, THEN DIE TO A MOB ATTACK THAT DEALS MINISCULE DAMAGE INSTEAD OF YOUR OWN SELF INFLICTED DAMAGE FROM LOW SANITY WHY?? I get that this is a spinoff but being forced to replay every single dungeon 4 times, most of the times more whenever there is a new enemy mob, in order to get all the bad endings is such a waste of time. Unless you play on EXPERT and have permadeath on the game is not even that hard, it just takes soooooooo long to find the stairs on each floor unless you're insanely lucky with your pathing or got a lot of DLC Mapping item. For having a CERO-Z rated game,...

Here's an unpopular opinion for you: This game is the best in the DerQ series so far. The first game doesn't support keyboard and mouse, has massive game-breaking (actual) glitches, has a weird system where you need to play some VN sections for a bit so some doors will be unlocked in the dungeon you're in, and has characters who will never STFU with their moaning when you free roam. The second game is even worse. A very pathetic story, barely any new teammates, with most of them being borrowed from the first game (the person who gives them to you is like "yeah i just restored these from backup so here you go lol"). I also think that the characters in this game are annoying and stupid. This spinoff game is much better than those two. There's actual KBM support, and the gameplay is now a dungeon crawler, which I actually like. The knockback gameplay in the previous entries was incredibly easy and not fulfilling. In this game, you actually have to try. New players should start with th...

Okay, this is gonna be a weird review. Story: Pretty good, it fits a midpoint very well. This follows Sakaya's story a character who reflects a certain murderer in DE1. While at first she was more shy and hid behind Shina, as it goes along she gains more confidence. This story continues off of DE2 and connects DE1, in a parallel world. Where Iris did something(Being as vague as possible here to avoid spoilers). Everyone do not have their memories from the previous DE, but it is reclaimed as it goes along. Including Barbas being sealed within Mai. Mai is one of the few who does retain some of her power. Anyway, Arata is the antagonist in this one. And he is from the High World, he came up with a plan. Which involved the Glitch Girls to help with his ultimate goal to destroy the High World, thinking that's how they can truly be free. Which also involves destroying the fake world Sayaka is in. He needed her power, and helps to draw it out more and more. Sayaka fights against her mur...

While this games gameplay certainly wasn't as fun as the other main series games, I still found this game quite enjoyable (if not a bit tedious at times). That being said, I did need to keep a wiki open at all times to try and remember all the terms and characters from the previous games... If you played and enjoyed the story of the other two, then I think checking this one is out worth your time even though the core gameplay is completely different, but if you haven't then go play Death end re;Quest instead.
