100+ hours in... Just found out you can equip items on units, not just heroes. I’ve been fighting with unarmed peasants this whole time. Genius move. 10/10, would struggle again.

About the Game
Create your own Legend
Another sunrise, another day of toil. Food must be grown, industries built, science and magic advanced, and wealth collected. Urgency drives these simple efforts, however, for your planet holds a history of unexplained apocalypse, and the winter you just survived was the worst on record. A fact that has also been true for the previous five.As you discover the lost secrets of your world and the mysteries of the legends and ruins that exist as much in reality as in rumor, you will come to see that you are not alone. Other peoples also struggle to survive, to grow, and perhaps even to conquer.
You have a city, a loyal populace, and a few troops; your power and magic should be sufficient to keep them alive. But beyond that, nothing is certain… Where will you go, what will you find, and how will you react? Will your trail be one of roses, or of blood?

Explore fantastic lands.
- Lead one of eight civilizations each with a unique gameplay style and storyline.
- Survive through cold dark seasons that drive Auriga to its end. Will it also be yours?
- Experience an endless replayability with randomly generated worlds and quests.
- Set the size, shape, topography and more... to create your own world to discover.

Expand beyond the unknown.
- Conquer, build and develop villages into feared fortresses or wonderful cities.
- Assimilate powerful minor factions and use their special traits and units wisely.
- Hire, equip and train your heroes to become army leaders or city governors.
- Raise your civilization by finding mysterious artefacts and forgotten technologies.

Exploit every opportunity.
- Evolve your civilization through the discovery of new advanced technologies.
- Collect Dust, luxuries and strategic resources tradable on the marketplace.
- Keep one step ahead of other civilizations through trade and subtle diplomacy.
- Choose from different victory conditions and adapt your strategy on the fly.

Exterminate fools who defy you.
- Experience an innovative dynamic simultaneous turn-based battle system.
- Use unit equipment, abilities and the terrain to overcome your opponents.
- Zoom out of a battle and rule the other aspects of your empire seamlessly.
- Define your custom civilizations and confront those created by your friends.

As much as I love Amplitude games, I think this one has the worst balancing of them all. You either curbstomp the AI or they curbstomp you - no inbetween. Basically the only two resources that matter are Industry and Science, and you're so reliant on lucky starts that you'll end up spending 90% of your playtime restarting over and over. If you want to get this game for the lore and stories, just read the wiki.
A struggle to get into the flow of this game and not much that feels intuitive. I think there is probably a good game and story telling to be enjioyed somewhere in there.
This is a 4x game which stands for eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate...EXTERMINATE, for which you use armies! Yet the unit gear design is beyond trash! You can't downgrade , you can't switch a unit from one design to an other , you can't have a low cost design which you can upgrade when needed to a different, specialised and stronger design AND STILL keep the cheap design. You might ask "why is that such a big problem?". This is a strategy game, right ?The point of it is to min-max for your right strategies...WELL, have fun doing that while your army is grinds away your pockets , cuz you will have to have armies no matter what! You can only upgrade , sell or kill off your unit... so what's the point then of building unit exp?! I didn't even get in to the DLC BS... And they are making a second game....
Combats so clunky and long that it will get you seething. Late game, they will take so long that you'll have time to cook as they resolve. It makes the game unplayable. I really tried to give this game a chance, but combats are an unavoidable part of it.
Der’s no Hotseat Mode, unfortunately.
Still amazing 11 years after the release
I bought EL and a whole bunoh of addons. I though i would give it another try but it is no longer available in my library on my M4 mac. What is going on ? Is this a 32-bit game ?
+ Deep gameplay + Rich, unique lore + Appealing visuals and brilliant music + Huge variety and replayability - Steep learning curve; the tutorial doesn’t do a good job explaining the basics. - UI takes time to get accustomed to
It's the best. I tried Endless Legends 2, but didn't really like it (who knows in the future). Instead I fell in love with this one all over again. My wife and I have been doing multi-player all week. This game really has a lot of the features you'd like to see and is still pretty simple to understand. It's a very pretty and enjoyable world. It has a wealth of lore and really sucks you into a fantasy world. It's like crack; we just don't seem to be able to put it down. Can highly recommend, especially in hard times.
