FRONT MISSION 2: Remake

Do not buy full price. Purchase on sale if curious. Game is good, however: the bugs on this port are unbearable and sometimes make it unplayable. Publisher isn’t fixing the bugs. Avoid until it is fixed.

A “remake” stuck being too true to the original game. Pick it up on sale if you really want to play it or if you a fan of FM2 and want it on PC. Front Mission 2 isn't necessarily a bad game but I find it to be a frustrating one which is why I finally decided to shelf it. It's fateful to the original to a fault, which I understand some fans like while others will likely be turned off by it. The gameplay loop itself didn’t bother me as much as the bad UI and deep menus with several loading screens mixed in. The game could easily maintained the same style of game with very limited ammo for wanzers and so on, while providing more information. Let me see the enemy armor type, let me see the AP usage of my weapons, let me be able to view enemy movement and range in one simple display. In general the game is lacking in information to the player. The menu system could also be cleaned up. I honestly cannot recall a more tedious game I have ever played. The user interface is atrocious, autosaves happen whenever, accidentaly going back to the main menu easily loses you half an hour progress (of tedious wanzer building), bugs randomly time travelling you back in the story, the world map bugging out and softlocking you if you dare use the mouse, I could go on. The terrible gameplay experience is supposedly true to form for the game, the overcomplicated design which in the end boils down to "put shorts on everyone then pray on dice rolls" gets boring quick. Long is nigh unusable, melee probably get's good after a while but it's pretty much pointless. Front Mission 1 was easy but fun, Front Mission 2 is just tedious. The story is honestly the only thing keeping me going.
