Alex Hill: Whispers at White Oak Inn

This game is getting tons of praise from former HER Interactive fans. "Could Alex Hill possibly fill the empty void that is ND??" I truly understand. We all miss the magic of ND games. And there's only so many times we can go back and play Ghost Dogs again. At first, this game APPEARS to have all the dressings of a mid-era ND entry. I wanted it to be this too. But please do not be fooled as I was. This game is absolutely not worth the hefty price tag, given that it is a bug-filled, first-time developer beta. It is just a lot of scaffolding. Yes, I can prepare coffee and order 12 different breakfast items... but where's the rest? There are long stretches where you are left to wander the same paths over again until the game finally recognizes your current checkpoint and allows you to proceed. The puzzles are non-existent, or so simple that [spoiler] you will literally read instructions minutes before being given a puzzle that say, "Make sure you place the moon before the star...

This woman made a damn Nancy Drew game when Her Interactive wouldn't! Just finished, if you're a fan of the Nancy games or just great point and click mysteries, I highly recommend. Proves you don't need to fix what isn't broken!

A good attempt at recreating a Nancy Drew-style mystery game; unfortunately, with all the baggage that carries with it. A lot of unintuitive back and forth needed to progress, pixel hunting, etc. A shame because it has a lot going for it. I think a lot of the issues could have been resolved at design time. Overall, not worth your time.

I purchased this game because it was recommended for fans of Nancy Drew. Unfortunately none of the puzzles for this game would load correctly. I would just get a black void on the screen but clicked blindly over and over until they were "solved." This tells me 1) they weren't that hard and 2) this game needs a lot of the bugs fixed. Unfortunately it is no where near the depth and mystery of the beloved HER interactive games. This game just wasn't difficult or interesting.

What a fun game! The story was engaging and the suspects interesting. It has a nice atmospheric soundtrack, and the graphics are charming in that old adventure game way. There were some very easy puzzles and then some that I spent an hour on. Difficulty is a little all over the place. But overall a good experience. I didn't experience any bugs, soft locks or crashes during my play through. This was clearly a labor of love by the developer, and follows in the footsteps of the Nancy Drew adventure games very well. There are some cute nods to that series that I really enjoyed. Can't wait for the next installment!

I fun throwback to the old point and click games with more adult themes, excited to see where the series goes! There is of course some jank but the voice acting is solid and the story is interesting
