About This Game

Utopia Must Fall is a vector-flavored base-defending arcade shooter with rapid progression, procedurally generated attack waves and enough upgrade variety to suit both the defensive or aggressive player.

It incorporates elements from tower defense, roguelikes and beyond, all neatly packaged into a laser-sharp bullet-purgatory arcade frenzy!

  • Easy To Learn: firing happens automatically, just steer the city's turret and launch the occasional sky-clearing nuclear warhead. Each day of survival is rewarded with an upgrade for your defenses, choose wisely to keep humanity alive for as long as possible.

  • Sizable Upgrade Tree: progress is fast and allows you to pick strategies to suit your playing style — beef up your rail gun into a multi-barrel death machine, strengthen your shield's auto defense abilities, deploy and configure an array of autonomous battle drones and laser turrets, or go all out on aggression and see out Utopia's final days with a stockpile of nukes and a shotgun the size of a building.

  • Arcade-Focused: there is no meta-progression (yet). In Utopia, all universes are created equal, and death is final. Earn upgrades and unlock new abilities by completing mini-challenges as you defend the city. Get good to get the good stuff!

  • Laser-Shiny: built with our brand-new V99 graphics engine, bringing you the retro-modern vector arcade style you didn't know you needed yet.

  • Darkly Humorous: the world is ending soon, what else is there left to do but laugh?

  • Affordable: reasonably priced to help offset the unreasonable cost of everything else.

30% Missile Command + 30% Space Invaders + 20% Asteroids + 20% Rogue-like progression = Utopia Must Fall --- There was a time in video game history where you were never expected to win. The classic arcade mindset was do the best you can, for as long as you can. Inevitably you were going to lose. This wasn't something to cry over, it was just the end scenario for basically any and all classic arcade games. High scores tracked who did the best and persistence was celebrated rather than victory. Decades after the invention of video games, now In a world full of hand holding, story telling experiences Utopia Must Fall isn't here to give you relaxing vibes or an interactive movie; instead it's here to frustrate you into challenging yourself and facing inevitable failure. This is a glorious amalgamation of classic arcade sensibility packaged with a modern evolution of replay value. Taking notes from games like Missile Command, Space Invaders and Asteroids, it grafts together a procedural...

To start with, my high score is 1.417m and I've gotten to day 50, you should try to beat my score! This game is probably the most fun I've had going for high scores in a game since Thumper and Nova Drift, the game doesn't really have the most build variety yet (there will be more in the future), but there are still a few builds you can go for (I would recommend personally keeping track of what score you've gotten to with each build because they're really different skillsets). The enemy variety is decent and focuses more on things like groups of enemies and how they collectively pose threats, there of course will also be more enemy variety in the future (and considering how devious some of the enemies already are, future ones should be quite interesting). I find that this game is also really easy to just open up and brainlessly play a run every now and then even if you don't feel like bothering with high scoring, if you pay enough attention you start feeling like all the weird little...

I was expecting a rouglike, but it's not. There are three-ish builds and you can force either any run. It's still surprisingly a lot of fun -- it's just enjoyable shooting at neon-colored polygons trying to beat you high score. Any complaints I have are dissatisfactions of deep mechnics and specific stats, which is a sign of a mature game. To devs: - Hermit build is way, way too weak. I tried to perfect it time and time again, and most of the times I was stat-checked by the calamari boss. I've just beat it once through perfect upgrade prioritization, and still lost the next round. Arc is just weak and takes too long to develop. - For Berserker build, it would be GREAT (and trivial to implement) to be able to choose a "no starting shield" option before the run, so that I don't have to farm damage r1 and delay rewards for no damage. Alternatively, how about changing the berserker condition to "don't take damage for x rounds"? - It would also be great (and trivial to implement) to have s...

Would love to give positive bút I won't. At the start of week 2 and 3 you face a losing battle against unusually tanky enemies until it starts to become unfun. Difficulty levels scales way too high in contrast to the size and content of the upgrade tree - meaning whatever you choose to upgrade isn't even beneficial in the long run. Take the firing speed and gimbal rate for example, a complete waste of slots, meanwhile it can be combined, and/or add other beneifts such as slightly more damage or velocity. (which is why nova drift is infinitely superior in this regard with its wonderful upgrade paths) You've gotta be a masochist to enjoy this kind of half-ass roguelite shmup game

As someone who has gotten all achievements in this game, this is incredibly made. An addicting gameplay loop, combined with simple yet clean graphics reminiscent of playing an old arcade machine, it just feels right. 10/10, would recommend.

this game, for weeks 1 and 2, are very fun. however, in late week 2/ week 3, you come against hordes of enemies that fire almost indestructable bombs that you can only push away with bullets, making it impossible to get any points from conservationist achievement, and just a death sentence to your city itself in later waves. i have gotten to the same point multiple times, and im pretty sure is is impossible with operation hermit, maybe impossible in general. it quickly becomes "am i lucky enough that they dont shoot them in my direction" if this game recieves updates and they lower the health of this projectile, i will continue playing
